-Notre Dame was selected No. 1 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine men's college hockey poll. Teddy Ruth, a Naperville local, and The Fighting Irish will be in the area Jan. 2-3 for a tournament at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

-North Central College track and field will host a clinic for coaches and athletes (age 12 and up) on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Merner Fieldhouse. For more information, call Mahesh Narayanan at 630-637-5525 or e-mail mahesh@noctrl.edu.

-Prepvolleyball.com ranks Benet 16th, Naperville Central 43rd and Naperville North 70th in its Dec. 4 edition of the top 100 national rankings. All three teams finished its seasons last month. Phil Brozynski has an alumni update here.

Naperville Central has presented its Red/White Awards - given in honor of former team manager Tom Hoesch - to the following fall athletes who demonstrated character and hard work:

-Notre Dame senior forward Brittany Bock, a Neuqua Valley graduate, is among 15 semifinalists for the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's top Division I women's soccer player.

-Washington University (St. Louis) sophomore running back Jim O'Brien, a Wheaton Warrenville South graduate, was selected to the all-University Athletic Association first team as a kick returner for the second-consecutive season. O'Brien averaged a conference-best 25.0 yards per kick return, and was second in all-purpose yards at 107.2 per game.

-Wisconsin-Whitewater freshman Alyssa Bauer, a Naperville Central graduate, has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's all-Midwest region honorable mention team. Bauer was also recognized on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's all-defensive team.
