Local clergy to host discussion on homosexuality

Local clergy announced Wednesday they will host a panel discussion: "In the Image of God: Religious Perspectives on Homosexuality, Politics and the Bible." The panel discussion will take place May 20 at 7 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 25 E. Benton St., Naperville.

"So many discussions about homosexuality begin with, 'But it says in the Bible...' and yet we never discuss what's really there. That needs to change," Wesley United Methodist Church Minister of Christian Education Elizabeth Bowes said in a release announcing the discussion. The release goes on to say, "The visibility of groups hostile to the rights of the LGBTQ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) has increased dramatically both nationwide and in Naperville. This panel will offer a fresh counterpoint to right-wing fundamentalist interpretations of scripture."

What do you think of this discussion, and the topic? Would you consider attending the discussion?
