A former Neuqua Valley High School teacher was found guilty on Friday in connection with an incident in which she was caught on tape slapping a student.
Akela Dillon, 26, of Lisle, was convicted of battery and sentenced to 12 months probation.
Appearing in Will County court, Dillon also was instructed to attend anger management classes and counseling and ordered to pay a $250 fine. Dillon was convicted of battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
Dillon, who was a business teacher at Neuqua at the time of the incident, was charged after slapping a 16-year-old male student in the face on April 3. The incident happened in a hallway during a passing period and was captured on a surveillance camera. On Monday, the Indian Prairie School District 204 school board fired Dillon.

Does it matter? I personally know the student who was hit, as well as the argument that aroused the situation, but even if the student had provoked the teacher, it is not appropriate for any physical action whatsoever to be taken upon a student.
