Blood evidence found in truck

By Ted Slowik

Craig Stebic says that as a hunter of deer and rabbits, he's not surprised that investigators found blood in his pickup truck. There's one big problem with his response: he doesn't explain how the blood recovered from a tarp in his vehicle tested positive for his wife's DNA.

A police source familiar with the investigation said the blood recovered from the tarp was used by investigators to obtain the search warrant that was served at the Stebic home very late on Monday, May 14, when items seized included Craig's and Lisa's vehicles.

Authorities have not officially commented on the report, saying only that the contents of the search warrant are under court seal. There have been no denials of the report.

Working backwards from the tidbit of information, one can infer that in order for authorities to determine that the blood was Lisa's, the blood had to have been recovered from the tarp earlier in the investigation and sent to a crime lab for testing. That means Craig would have voluntarily consented to allow authorities to take the blood from the tarp, in order for the evidence to be admissable.

The discovery of Lisa's blood on the tarp may mean nothing. A drop of her blood could have ended up on the tarp any number of ways. Our report merely answers the question, what evidence did authorities present to a judge in order to obtain the search warrant?

So far, authorities remain tight-lipped about the investigation into Lisa's disappearance. The case this week continues to receive national attention from networks including Fox, MSNBC and CNN. Last week I wrote that the visibility of the case might start to diminish three weeks after her disappearance, once her 38th birthday passed on Saturday. So far, that hasn't happened.

I don't think this "leak" about the DNA evidence was an accident. If the Plainfield police have enough evidence to think Craig Stebic committed a crime, but not enough evidence to make an arrest, it would make sense to use the media. The story about the DNA evidence clearly ramps up the pressure on the husband. But the police can later deny it because it wasn't an official release.

The whole thing sounds like something out of a police drama -- let the suspect think you've got some solid evidence and then see what he does. Already, Craig Stebic has made the mistake of talking to reporters about where he thinks the blood came from.

Does it make me a bad person if I believe the butler did it?

I think that the police need to jump on this blood infomation quick. There is something about this situation that is not adding up and I truly hope they will find something soon.

Oh for pete's sake, do you really think he would let the police come in and search everything if he had just done her in. Not too mention, if he was smart enough to kill her (apparently in a bloody way) without leaving lots of trace evidence in the house, doesn't it seem likely that he would have gotten rid of the tarp in a dumpster somewhere? After all, there is no trace of her and everyone would like to think he did her in. If someone searched my husband's truck, they'd most likely find drops of my blood too, I've cut my hands a few times moving stuff.

Perhaps since she lost weight to reenter the single world, wanted her hubby to support her, she simply stashed cash away, bought a new cell phone and left???

Just fess up Craig. We all know you did it!!!!!!!!! I knew it the first time I saw it on the news. Like it was just a coincidence that she disappeared during domestic problems. Right! It is almost ALWAYS the husband.
He was upset and jealous that she was moving on.
Now, these poor children will have to endure years of pain and anguish, thanks to a selfish man.

This almost happened to someone I love, but we all saw the writing on the wall before it was too late.

I really think that it is easy to say Craig did it..then you hear how unemotional he is at all of the vigils. If you are going through an ugly divorce your feelings for the spouse are not loving?? We are all capable of rage at one time or another. I really do'nt think he is smart enough or sinister to carry out this murder. It is obvious that it is an ugly divorce. Who ever did this made a mistake and the FBI will find it.

About six weeks ago, a similar missing wife search was on in the Detroit area. Husband could not explain what happened to her. Went on tv and cried over her being missing and portrayed his wonderful "father skills". Turns out, he killed her. He dismembered her and scattered her in the woods not far from his house. When please finally got a search warrant, hed fled trying to hide in Northern Michigan, was eventually caught. Police did find some of the wifes bones in the garage. So murderers do let police into the house after they committ "bloody murder". My prayers for ereryone involved but him!

Apparently, since the www.findlisastebic.com Web site is no longer accepting wildly speculative posts about what might have happened to Lisa and who might be responsible, many of you have found your way here. While I welcome you and invite you to share your thoughts about the case, we can't publish comments that cross the line and declare that someone did something, based purely on speculation. If you don't see your comment posted, keep that in mind.

well i left a post to craig on www.findlisastebic.com and now im not allowd to post so i thought this was for lisa not to protect craig. And how could he go and try for sole custody after he was so sad and so upset for lisa and then they find the tarp that had her blood on it. and now he say she is a bad mom who left her kids. COME ON if she was alive and could call she would call her family and let them know where she at she seemed to have cared alot for her kids as i heard one of her co-workers say. so lets WAKE up people and SMELL the coffee lisa needs to be found so she can rest in peace. and craig if you were such a caring father you would put your kids at rest and let the police know what you did to lisa your not ganna get away with it just like laci petterson she fought even from beyond for her husband to get caught and so will lisa.. so in the end craig you will LOSE... GOD BLESS LISA'S KIDS AND FAMILY... And may GOD watch over lisa's children while they are with there father...

Mr. Slowik,
I will in no way be disrespctful to the Stebic family. I am just tired of the media sensationalizing people who are trying to survive(making a life together) in this now stressful world that we live in. There are now many stories like this. My heart goes out to this family. I hope that the truth/evidence will convict and or prove guilt(if a crime was committed). Mostly I hope that the family will have closure and be able to move on with their lives. Thank you.

I wonder if anyone thought to look in the U.P. of Michigan?I was married to a violent, selfish, man, who owned many firearms as well!We went through a very bad divorce.I believe to this day,if he could of gotton away with it,I would of been a missing mama too!!One evening, while on drugs, he told he he could dump me in the U.P of Michigan in an old iron ore mine and no one would ever find me!Does her husband still have access to hunting grounds up there? Has her husband been seen up there lately? It is only a 5 hour drive from the chicago suburbs to the U.P.The fact that he made reference to "hunting" makes me suspicious!I Hope I am all wrong!I hope the police start looking in the U.P.It is very remote area with much wilderness as well!Just a Hunch!!!I will say a prayer for Lisa and her children today!

I am not basing his lack of emotion on his possible guilt. It just all fits.
What are the chances of it being a random person abducting her?
Like she would really have stranger pick her up at her home with her husband there.
And why did he not report it until the next day? Because she stayed out late before?
Why did he not call her cell and make sure she was alright? If he really cared.
This case may never be solved , but if he did it, he will have to look at those kids everyday, and know he took their mother away.

Sort of a topic drift....
What is the deal with the lawyer and the Scott Peterson look? Kind of creepy.

Or is it just me?

Hello I am a Canadian citizen who has been watching this case from day one. It really sounds to me like every other case of a mother gone missing and eventually it all leads back to the husband. I truly hope I am wrong about this but it is highly unusual that a loving mother would leave her kids like that. Craig is you are innocent God Bless You and if you are not I hope you get what is coming to you.

While I can't blame Lisa Stebic’s family for trying to keep the issue of her disappearance circulating in the media, I do find the fact that the media keeps running segments with no tangible developments to be both unprofessional and unethical. The liberally dominated media does not continue to regurgitate stories about missing children or women when there are no new or few new developments in cases involving minority communities.

So here we have a typical liberal conundrum. While they purport to advance minority causes and issues they ultimately fail to reflect fairness in their propensity to push missing person cases like Lisa Stebic’s over those involving missing minority persons.

Former NBC reporter Amy Jacobson’s bimbosity served to display the lengths some in her field will go to promote stories that they believe are . Jacobson choose to include her children in her appearance at the Stebic residence displaying a complete lack of judgment by placing them in the presence of a man under scrutiny for the disappearance of his wife in order to advance her agenda.

Of course now Jacobson claims that if she were a man in swim trunks he would not have been fired. Jacobson says, “If I were a man, the story wouldn't be an issue”. Again, typical liberal response. Now the moron who placed her children in jeopardy becomes the victim and claims gender bias is the reason for the reaction. Furthermore she claims a competing news station’s choice to air the event was improper when Jacobsen lack of professionalism, class, and judgment on her part became a story in itself.

Only hypocritical liberals are capable of contorting the facts to fit their own agenda while at the same time claiming to be victims.
