Merry Christmas, vote for me

I think it's great that Illinois is going to be a major player in the 2008 presidential election, now that the governor has signed a law that moves the primary to Feb. 5. But I'm not sure everyone realizes the ramifications of moving up the election six weeks, which include heavy campaigning during the holidays.

Remember, the primary is about more than just picking the presidential nominees. We also select our state and congressional representatives and, in many cases, senators. If there are primaries for various county offices, those campaigns are moved up six weeks, too.

The change means absentee voting will begin just two days after Christmas and early voting is scheduled to start Jan. 14.

Doesn't it seem like all this is being done in order to increase Barack Obama's chances at winning the Democratic nomination? What do you think of that?

Who cares? Voter participation is so low anyway. Soldiers are dying to protect our right to vote and moset people don't even bother to.

If that's the attitude... "Who cares" then maybe it's time to hang it up and move to Canada. It's only by voting that we can actually make a difference whether it's Obama or - heaven forbid -Hillary. Let's just hope fred Thompson saves our bacon, but the only way to do that is to, you got it, vote.
