'Rock of Love' winner from Naperville

| 10 Comments | No TrackBacks

Remember how when Gina Glocksen finished in the top 10 on "American Idol," how there was much fanfare here with the mayor and a plaque, etc. We wonder, what are the chances of there being a "Jes Ricklef Day" in Naperville to honor the local who won VH1's hit reality show, "Rock of Love?"

Probably nil. "American Idol" is perceived as wholesome family entertainment, which "Rock of Love" showed girls being vulgar, crass and crude in their quest to date Bret Michaels, lead singer of the band Poison. Except for Jes, that is. She came across as sweet and normal -- no doubt that's why she won.

Should Naperville formally recognize its latest reality show star?

I'd be surprised if Naperville did anything to honor "The Rock of Idol" winner. My daughter, Nicole,a Naperville native, finished in The Apprentice Final Four this year and received no city recognition. Her appearance in The Last Fling Parade was because of a paid entry fee by myself & a local mortgage company. I can't see the city recognizing a show of questionable morals.

No, while undeniably popular I don't think she rises to the popularity of a Gina Glocksen. Also, I don't think the punk-style hair etc. has anything to do with it. Nobody cares about that stuff anymore. It's all about the pop culture impact. How many people watch VH-1 as opposed to American Idol. That ices it.

I can tell you, that certainly Jess deserves a day of recongnition. Because D'ambrosio didn't win, how can give her the same kind of honors as Rickleff.

True, Glocksen didn't win either, but she has done so much for Naperville. I don't think anyone can overlook her great efforts for the community.

In the case of Rickleff, there needs to be a parade, an ode to her for wonderful representation on this show.

(caution: I do not know any of the contestants in any of the shows personally, I was just a voracious TV watcher and fan. )

Can you believe that anyone would give a day of honor to "reality" stars. They are attention phenes who are just gasping for any publicity.

I would consider the opposite. Although, I will concede that all of these three women seem like nice people, only one of them has really done anything for the community.

I think that there is so little attention paid to D'Ambrosio but I can see how, considering that she didn't seem that kind on the show, while the other two were either feisty or scrappy.

The girl from Rock of lOve and Gina Glocksen from Idol were kind in real life. They've done charitable work; they've embraced their fame, while being somewhat humble.

The woman from The Apprentice---not so much.

Personally, I think honoring Gina Glockson who only recently moved to Naperville was over-the-top. But at least Ms. Glockson is a positive role model for Naperville's youth. The Apprentice girl was unlikeable and more "famous" for her hook-up with one of the male contestants than for her talent. Jess was on a show that did little but glorify sex and drinking and showed women at their worst. Not exactly something that a "kid-friendly" town like Naperville should be honoring.

Who do you think was the hotest out of the three?

I think it's a landslide decision if you ask me.

Well, it's Jess. But prettiest may be D'Ambrosio.

Anyway, I do believe there has been a lot of attention placed on these three, but that's how news goes. I will say that the reporting has been fair and sometimes interesting, better than the national coverage.

It's probably better that way...because gossip publications get old.

I do think these three are good for the community.

Know who is hot, Paula Zahn, another Naperivlle staple.

Amazing! Someone really cares about this stuff and will invest thought into commenting? Awesome!
