Burchard calls it quits

| | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0)

Before the proceedings got underway at Tuesday's City Council meeting a real shocker was announced - City Manager Peter Burchard is packing it in after being at the helm in Naperville for 10 years. Under his stewardship, Burchard has managed the city during a time of explosive growth and daunting challenges. Widely respected mong government officials and the public alike, he's got shoes that will certainly be big to fill - especially now, with a whole host of development projects on the plate of Naperville's city government. What can we all make of it? He'll be a tough guy to replace. Will the city act fast in replacing him, or will we see a lonng, drawn-out selection process? Weigh in on what you think of this sudden news and tell us if you've had any memorable meetings, personal experiences etc. with the man who, often quietly and behind the scenes, helped make Naperville what it is today over the course of the last decade.

I don't think the city of Naperville will ever find an equal to Peter Burchard. :(

I've got nothing but good things to say about him, and all the things he's done over the last ten years. Hopefully he will be just as successful in whatever it is that he is going to be doing next.

The solution is simple.

Naperville was ranked the second best city in America after Ft. Collins, Colorado.

All we have to do is offer the Ft. Collins City Manager a few more bucks and we will have the no. 1 man replacing the no. 2 man and we will shortly be ranked the best city to live in America.

Now let us get movin' and do some recruiting. We are much wealthier than Ft. Collins so we have the dough to get the best.

Blake..

I don't know if Blake's comments are tongue in cheek, but what is this ridiculous fascination with the "second best city in America." C'mon it's only an arbitrary list that a magazine uses to sell copies. Can't anybody see through that? Or, are Napervillians really that dumb that they believe the blather, or, worse, naive enough to buy into it?
