Park director pick near

The Naperville Park District board says its may decide the next executive director by Dec. 16. What does that person need to know about taking charge of Naperville's parks and recreation programs?

The park board meets Monday night with its consultant, who says 95 people applied for the top job. The search firm says 20 applicants are Naperville residents and 52 are from Illinois. Nine are current park district directors.

The search firm tonight is expected to present commissioners with the names of 10 finalists, who are scheduled to tour the district Dec. 14 and undergo interviews with the board Dec. 15-16. The board is searching for someone to replace Barbara Heller, who left the district in March.

With the search process drawing to a close, what words of wisdom can Naperville residents impart to the incoming director? What advice should that person hear about the Park District -- ranging from administrative issues such as the registration process and program offerings, to finance and tax issues, to park board politics?

Look at your tax bill. It's not about the Park District. The school district is responsible for 73% of your property tax bill!

Just pick the one that will spend the least!

One thing and one thing only, STOP raising our taxes!!!
It is a Park District, not the end all and be all to every whimsical program someone can dream up! Have you seen some of the nonsense the Park District has in that million page catalogue they send around multiple times a year.

Some house cleaning and program trimming is in order at the Park District.

Since when does a Park District promote gambling with trips to casinos? Naperville's does, it is ridiculous!
