It's official: Ex-fire chief gone for good

Late Friday afternoon (4.25), it became official. Former Naperville fire chief and the city went their separate ways. It was three weeks ago that Wu, apparently because of job performance issues, was given the choice to resign or be terminated. Law allowed a 21-day grace period for Wu, presumably, to contest that city's action. With no follow-up from the ex-chief, the 21-day period ended Friday. Wu, according to interim city manager Bob Marshall, reached an "equitable" agreement with the city and is gone for good. The move was announced in a terse city statement with little detail, so little that Marshall, according to our report, didn't even know if Wu still lived in Naperville. We're still curious as to what really happened here - the whole thing remains shrouded in mystery. But now that it's all done and over with maybe someone would like to come forward and enlighten us as to what really happened in the strange case of John Wu. We're all ears.

"I wish him the best".

He probably left a good job to come here, it's unfortunate that his name was diminished by his stay in Naperville.

I hope we don't have to pay way above market to get the next person to take our job.

Hey, who forgot to tell Wu that if he wrote a 9 page memo blasting Wherli for being a nincompoop he could have gotten a really nice severance package, an extended consulting gig with the Naperville Fire Department, his picture on the front page of the Naperville Sun looking pensive, a goodbye luncheon sponsored by the Naperville Chamber of Commerce, and the undying gratitude of the rest of the city council members?

Sometimes, being your own person and refuse to play politics can get you kicked out of the team. Eventually, the universe will make everything come out even in the end. Good luck, Mr. Wu and family. You deserve much better. God bless.

I think j. wu is way to classy and mature to write a 9 page expo that is only going to end up in the brief of a very GOOD con-law attorney. As the fiasco grows, many people are realizing that something smells in Denmark. Wu came from Sugarland, TX. He served on fire dept, while ms. womack worked at SPD, and Connie Neale worked @ Sugarland public schools. The equitable agreement sounds like a misnomer for a NO DISCLOSURE SEPERATION package. I'll bet that pint of Guinness@ Q's that we never hear from him, until he shows up in federal court. Does anyone remember the FF fired while resisting an assault inside ppublic safety bldg? I never will understand that one. As JIM and Ted oftan ask ? Are we missing something here. Any FF care risking job and pension by speaking up?

Anon: Had to delete your last comment posted to this thread because I didn't understand one word of it. Thanks.

MJ,

I was asking Q for definitions and job descriptions for the abbreviations and people that he referenced in his above post. I don't get the abv.. and I don't know the people he is referring to.

Quigley

What is a con-law attorney?

What does FF mean?

Who is she and what does she do, ms. Womack?

Who is she and what does she do, Connie Neale?

Is there someone else from Sugarland that is pulling them into Naperville?

Wu headed for Federal Court, why?

Thanks!
