Perhaps the more appropriate question for Naperville residents is, "Are you getting a refund check?" Many households in Naperville won't be because they exceed the federal government's income requirements for eligibility.
For those who are, how are you spending it? Blowing it on electronics or other retail goods like good little consumers? Maybe paying down some credit debt? Saving it, perhaps? Or using it to pay real estate taxes?
Tell us whether you're getting an economic stimulus check, and what you'll do with it.

Gas!
Yes, I'm getting a check. I plan to replace my existing over the range microwave because it has been dying a slow death ($250), saving some and paying down debt with the rest.
Between the ridiculous cost of gas and groceries, there's not much left over afterwards. Whoopty doo. Thanks for nothing, Bush.
We are upgrading our counter tops to granite and getting a new Sub Zero freezer in stainless steel. Last year we got a new dishwasher (Bosch) and a new oven (Wolf), so now all ut appliances will be stainless steel! Obviously the refund check won't pay for all this, but it certainly helps!
Using it to help pay my property tax bill.
>How are you spending your refund check?
Using it to help pay my ever skyrocketing District 204 tax bill.
Enrollment declining, tax bill still skyrocketing.
Go figure.
Not getting one, which I think is wrong. I'd spend the money just like anyone else.
Used to pay my the skyrocketing taxes for the schools run by an inept school board that should be run out of town along with Howie Crouse !!
Thought I would drop by Hessed House and give to "people that are down but not out".
We're buying laptops for the kids.
I am going to use it to pay the 15.75% increase in my Naperville Property Tax Bill. District 203 only hit me with a 3.00% plus increase. I don't have the double whammy that District 204 residents have.....both city and a crazy school board.
Those litigation costs will cost 204 residents dearly for many years to come. My sympathy really goes out to them.
I hope I have a little left after paying Naperville's outrageous property taxes.
Since they are doing nothing to help that poor homeless man that lives on Chicago Ave. outside the parking garage, I plan on making a donation to him with part of my Bush Check.
I dislike President Bush but I appreciate his gesture in rough times. I wish the City of Naperville had a matching gesture we could all appreciate.
The City of Naperville is all about I, me, myself and I again. They could care less about anyone but themselves.
It is hard to believe in these dire economic times they can afford to pay City Manager Marshall a retirement pension combined with a nice salary...at the same TIME!!!
How about giving that poor homeless man Mr. Marshall's pension and getting him a home....at least an apartment or a shack. The poor man is freezing every night.
No one deserves to get paid twice by the same entity after he retires. It just seems like another scam causing most of my Bush refund check to go to the City of Naperville!
====================================================================
PS. How about an article on that homeless man. What is his sad story? Maybe the Naperville Sun can set up an account we can donate money into and help him. Maybe if those charities did not have to pay so much police OT, they could buy this guy a small condo. He should not have to freeze all winter while the police rape the Charity Funds to the tune of $100,000 per year. It is sickening how charity is interpreted in Naperville!!!
300 members of the NPD should consider donating their services to these 2 charities twice a year....not charging them OT! That would get them respect in the community...instead of hatred! Almost everyone else working them except for the vendors are donating their time and services...for Heaven's Sake...they are Charities...no one charges a charity OT...only the Naperville Police...how shameful!!! How disgusting!!!
Response from Naperville Sun editors:
We did articles on Scott Huber when he ran for mayor. Sorry you missed them. He's also an occasional commenter on this online community forum.
Hazmat suits for my kids who will be attending Metea @ Eola/Molitor
I have received our rebate tax credit and have already used it to help the oil companies earn a even greater profit. I gave the whole $1,200 to pay off my outstanding balance on my Shell and Exxon Mobil credit cards. Now I have some breathing room when I fill up my car to the tune of $75.00 a fill up. Thank you Bush, I hope you oil friends give you a nice gift once your out of office.
Hardly Bush's fault.
Stooge-like comments . . .
My 1200 dollars is going to pay for the increase of my real estate tax bill over last year.
It just seems very odd. One government body gives it to you while the other takes it away from you. The net effect on me and the Naperville Economy which I am suppose to stimulate is 0. Thanks to Burchard and Marshall for managing our town to perfection!
City of Naperville really let the residents down this year with this huge tax increase.
With all the new multi-million dollar homes joining the tax pool, I thought my real estate taxes were coming down this year.
I was shocked when I saw my real estate bill was up instead of down!
My friend in Lisle actually experienced a tax decrease. I guess downtown Naperville must be draining the citizens financially as the Napergatians have been telling us....high rise parking decks, police on bikes, police on OT, and who knows what else I am missing!
There has to be a more equitable form of taxation in this town after all waste is controlled. No one should be subsidizing retailars like Starbucks that are reportedly making one million in profit at one downtown location. They should be subsidizing the residents and not the other way around. The sales tax they collect from us residents is tax to US and not to THEM. They just collect and pass it on. What true taxes are they paying for the parking decks? To the best of my knowledge nothing since it is all sales tax related which is coming mostly from residential homeowners of Naperville.
Since Starbucks can be found in other suburbs, I doubt people from other towns are skipping their local Starbucks in mass to drop their money in ours especially when the gas effect of a round trip would bring the cost of their Latte to 10 dollars from 4 dollars.
I hope City Officials take a second look at what has gone wrong in our downtown. One thing they can do for sure to save us taxpayers money is to scratch the unneeded library parking deck...that will really sock us if ever built!!!!
I am hoping the Naperville Sun will cover this unbalanced taxation in town in an upcoming edition. It appears City Officials are not taking this blog site seriously.
Let us hope they take the Print Edtition seriously. Otherwise, it will be too late when election time rolls around! INACTION will result in the outsting of all members of the City Council who take no ACTION! I sense frustration is building in my neighborhood!
Oh really? Care to explain whose fault it is that we have such a horrendous economy, Stinks?
I'll be sending my check to the NSFOC. Although I don't agree with all of their arguments at least they are challenging the financial mismanagement and disception by the School Board and Superintendant.
I encourage all of you to do the same.
I'll be using to pay my outrageous District 203 property taxes. Just remember that next time some left winger like Suzyn Price states, "taxes are great for the schools!!"

"I'll be sending my check to the NSFOC."/
How does that go? A fool and his money..............
Mine will be used to pay for the downtown subsidized parking and police OT while Starbucks clears a million dollar in profit at the corner of Jefferson and Main! Beautiful! Great City Officials! Keep up the great work!
Stinks remember you are too rich to receive a refund check. Why don't you donate some of your money to inner city kids?
We do donate quite a bit (to other causes). But, I'm hardly rich. We drive a 10 year old and 7 year old car. Both of which are just your average auto. Nothing European or fancy Japanese. We don't take extravagant vacations (hardly any vacations really). And, we don't live in a big fancy house. And, we don't have tons of money stashed away.
Yet, we're the ones that are being targeted for tax incentive roll backs by both candidates and increased SS tax by Obama and no tax rebate. Great.
Stinks, according to a post you made on a previous blog, by the end of March you'd already earned the maximum income on which you have to pay Social Security. This year, that's $102,000. Unless you've stopped earning entirely since then, it's kind of hard to feel sympathy for your plight.
I understand your point of view, but it's amazing how simply we live.
And, by the way, don't extrapolate my annual as being 4x. It isn't. We're only somewhat above the cutoff point of the rollbacks and SS increase thresholds.
John thats exactly what I was talking about. The post where Stinks told me (AAW) just how well off he was. I didn't really think he would donate any of his money to inner city kids. That was just a joke. Have a great day, John Q. I love your comments.
