Experts say it's a bad year for mosquitoes

The bad news is, there are a lot of mosquitoes this year because of rains we've had. The good news is, it's not as bad in Naperville as in other communities, and these aren't the mosquitoes that carry West Nile.

Naperville spent about $132,000 battling mosquitoes last year. How well is the city doing? Should the city do more? Spend less? Or has the city got this one just right? What's been your experience with mosquitoes and mosquito control?

There definitely seem to be more mosquitoes this year, but what can the city do about it? As long as they're treating all of the known problem areas---which they should be doing EVERY year---I don't see how spending more money can yield better results.

Driving around the downtown neighborhoods, one is stuck by the number of houses with trees growing out of the gutters.

No doubt many of these are owned by people that want to tear them down some day but operate them as substandard properties for the next few years while they wait for the boom to resume.

Do mosquitoes thrive in standing water, like gutters?
