The Naperville Township Board tonight meets to consider annual raises for elected officials: supervisor, highway commissioner, assessor, clerk and trustees. Last year raises were about 5 percent. This year, they may be less, one official said, though the final decision won't be made until August or September.
What do you think? What you be a fair wage increase these days for elected officials? And not just township -- what's fair for city council, county board, state representative, U.S. senator -- all those salaries and benefits your tax dollars pay for.

Townships are an archaic form of government and should be abolished and disbanded. Interesting that Cook County doesn't have townships isn't it? If it can work there it can work anywhere else in this state.
Every single aspect of government business accomplished at the township level can easily and more cheaply performed at either the city or county level.
Just another fine example of government waste in Illinois.
Trust me, what you get at the Township is political hacks that are "plugged into the establishment." You better not rock their boat cause if you do, they will break your back. It's nothing but a cush job without much to do. Township organizations should be banned in Illinois, or at least in the form we have them. Unfortunately the electorate doesn't give a rat's *** about them so they can effectively get away with most of what they want without any scrutiny.
Raises should be based on performace against goals. What are the job expectations for these officials (aside from chair warming)? I've been in the township offices and it looks like the Star Wars Bar in there. It would be most helpful to dig into what these folks actually do, how well they do it and then determine if and what there raises ought to be.
Paying high salaries also does not grant any assurances that you'll get quality individuals or performance. Look at the IPSD 204 school administration led by Dr Daschner for a great example of this phenomenon.
You have got to be kidding me. Why do they need a raise. They already have generous health care, etc. Why can't this lousy state get rid of this over bloated municipal government garbage. Township government should be dumped, it's just another patronage cesspool. Illinois is the WORST state for this sort of waste. We need some township officials to stand up and take charge of this waste and do radical surgery to cut it out.
Interesting that last year they got around 5%. Industry average if I recall correctly was only about 3.5% or so.
