Demand up, supplies down at food pantries

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Food banks that serve the Naperville say they are in desperate need of assistance. Demand is up. No wonder. With the sluggish economy, more people are out of work and out of jobs. But donations are down, too. Some who may have donated previously have fallen on hard times themselves. And No. 3, food is more expensive to buy, thanks to rising fuel costs and other factors.

What have you considered doing to help out these local agencies that serve people in the community in need? Have you considered donating money? Volunteering your time? Organizing a food drive? Or doing nothing at all?

How are you?, Give something for help the hungry people in Africa and India,

Since there is not much I can do about the tax man or township gov. it seems easier and more purposeful to conserve as much as possible to continue to give to those less fortunate. A brown bag lunch, going out for dinner every other month rather than every month, are a few things to keep charitable contributions up. I feel that in giving, I get a real lift in my day to conquer life's little problems.

Economic conditions have tightened there are more people in need. Citizens have been generous in stepping up to help. Certain governments are required by law to assist the needy. Townships are required to assist. It is embarrassing that Naperville Township has frozen payments at $5,000 to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in these times of increasing needs. At the same time they have increased their own salaries and compensation by over $500,000 (half million)in the last four years. They compensate Trustee Spitzzeri over $32,000 a year for a dozen meeting that barely last one hour each. Too bad Spitzzeri and others could not find a few extra dollars to help the needy children and elderly instead of reserving most of the taxpayers' money for themselves.

I think you failed to mention the ever increasing tax burden that we all operate under. If taxes and government spending weren't so out of control, ordinary people would have more money to determine their own lives.

Let us cut the waste, abuse, fraud and mismanagement and let the people keep more of their own money.
