Double standard

| 49 Comments | No TrackBacks

How come Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, is faced with questions about whether she could juggle the demands of the position on top of raising five children? Would a male candidate in a similar situation face the same questions?

Is this fair? Why or why not? How is this double standard able to exist?

Speaking of vile ----- how about the blatant racism the Obama campaign has been regularly introducing into the election?

The latest racial agenda item: The Obama campaign has let it leak that there will be "rioting in the streets" if Obama loses!

Does it get more blatant then that?

To: Anonymous on October 11, 2008 8:56 PM

And you can't separate facts from your emotional wants or your talkingt points. I would suggest you learn to think on your own.

YOU blamed McCain for stuff an audience of 25000 is yelling (and very few, I may add).

Have you been to any Obama rallies? I have, and the crap yelled at them is just as bad.

Anonymous on October 11, 2008 9:51 AM - You need to take your medication. You obviously can't read, which makes you the ignorant one. The remarks above were posted here a day before McCain decided to say anything to the hate-filled crowds. Senator McCain is sincere in his desire to calm fears, but it may be a little too late.

You have it bassackwards!

It is the Obama campaign that drags race into EVERY question about Obama or his past associations and activities.

However, it doesn't stop there: Both in the primaries with Hillary and now, the Obama campaign has daily practiced Racism, Ageism, and Sexism in this race.

THEY are the ones risking civil disobedience at the end of this election cycle.

Apparently you are too ingnorant to even use your own ears and mind and MUST march to the Democrats talking points. Otherwise you would have heard McCain CLEARLY shutting down the despicable yells yourefer to.

But, to do that, you would need to be fair, open-minded, and in control of your own thought.

Too bad.

Interesting facts on Chicago:

Body count. In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago , 221 killed in Iraq .

Senators Barack Obama & Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Mayor Richard Daley.....the leadership in Illinois.....all Democrats.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.

Of course, they're all blaming each other. Can't blame Republicans - there aren't any!

State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look'em up if you want). Chicago school system one of the worst in country.

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . AND he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics?????

It seems that a bipartisan committee has found Gov. Palin guilty of abusing her power. Hmmmm, sounds like the same ol', same ol' to me. So much for getting rid of the "good ol' boys", if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! You betcha!

The McCain campaign is dragging race and hate into this election. Those are the facts. If you lived through the 60's and 70's anywhere near riots, you should be very afraid of what Palin and McCain are inciting along the way. Read the news and watch the video of today's hate rally in WI. Senator McCain allows and encourages it to continue. There are everyday people shouting "kill him" in regard to Senator Obama. What year is this anyway? The nooses are hanging from the trees around here, according to what some of you are writing.

And you are pretty clueless.

Keep checking your email for the updated Democratic Party talking points ---- they change evry day!

Your group practices agism, sexism on a hourly basis, so your easy use of "isms" is disengenuous.

There is no excuse for racism. Sorry. You can hate your captors, hate the regime, hate your torturers, but there's no reason for a blanket hatred of all people based on what a few people did.

You're doing an excellent job of repeating the (failed and irrelevant) Republican talking points about what is essentially a non-issue. I mean, this guy is SO DANGEROUS that he is a teacher at a state school! Scary!

Let's see ---- he was severely tortured by the North Vietnamese and some of his closest friends were tortured and killed by them in front of his eyes? If hate EVER has an excuse, that is it.

If I recall correctly (and I usually do), he has apologized for not voting for the MLK holiday as a mistake, no?

However, instead of just spewing this, can you provide actual data and not just your types little words?

Your defense of Obama & Ayers is impossible, as there is none. You DO a good job of repeating the Democratic talking points, but the points are meritless.

Who cares how old or young Obama was when the Ayers practiced terrorism on our own country? They did, and they still preach it, and they still try to undermine our system and values. Obama IS close with them.

Your attempt to pretend it was a passing meeting is plain wrong. Look at the data --- open your eyes and mind! Hell, Obama wrote a testimonial on Ayers book! He serfved on two foundations/projects (Anneberg & Woods) with him. Obama directly passed dollars to Ayers on one of them! While under Obama's guidance, the Woods project passed dollars on to Rev. Wright.

Obama is close to Ayers and had many fundraisers and meetings with him ---- it was at Ayer's house where Sen. Chalmers "passed the baton" to Obama.

Wake up! So far, the only nutjob here so far would, based on the data provided, be you.

McCain has said that he "hates the gooks and will hate them as long as he lives". He repeatedly voted against establishing Martin Luther King Day as a holiday. Talk about bigotry and small minds! What do actions like that demonstrate to you? Openmindedness?

As for Ayers, need I remind you that Obama was 8 when that happened? Oh please, what a gratuitous stretch of imagination there. The man is a teacher at a prestigious college in Chicago, they served on a council together briefly, and that is it. But go on and think an 8 year old was in some way involved in Weather Underground, like the rest of the nutjobs.

You might actually get some useful data and not the kool-aid you continue to spew on this blog.

You can add to the video the fact that Sen.Obama wrote a very flattering testimonial to Ayer's book.

And yet, you and others want us to believe they only met a "few times", there is no connection, and we should ignore it.

Not gonna happen ---- too many people died, were maimed, or were otherwise forever changed by both the war at the time AND the illegal, demeaning actions by those back home to ignore this.

Obama cavorts with terrorists ---- period!

Exactly what do you think Ayers is?

Racist and Bigot? There is a newsflash, bucky! If true, it would have been all over the media. Just another example of your teeny, tiny mind, lefty!

Perhaps you should try and open your mind and actually listen to the data yourself instead of relying on Maher and Katie and cooper and Dan, etc.

You are clearly a bigot with a small mind and a narrow view of the world --- in short, you are an "uber liberal", no?

"Cavorting with terrorists"? Hilarious! Who's doing that?

As for Palin's lies, I'm not going to do your research for you, but here's a brief Newsweek article (http://www.newsweek.com/id/162100) outlining just a few of her outrageous statements. I hope that Newsweek isn't too far left of a media source for you. And yes, it outlines some of Biden's inaccuracies as well.

But, whatever, if you genuinely believe that someone who is a well-documented racist and bigot should be in charge of this country, someone who wants to continue all the failed Bush policies, with a running mate who believes in "witches" and "witchcraft", thinks that evolution is debatable and the Iraq war was "God's Plan", I guess you have a right to your (wacky) opinion just like anyone else does. Too bad for you that it already looks like it will never come to pass.

I'm not really a religious kinda guy, but I prefer the witchdoctor thing to cavorting with terrorists.

To:Anonymous on October 6, 2008 9:28 AM

Newsflash, Ace!

It is part of documented COngressional history:McCain tried to get more rules and hanges to Fannie/Freddie --- the Dems didn't allow it. No help from Biden or Obama.

You might want to do some research on Fannie/Freddie. it is clearly a cesspool, a lot from both sides are involved, but is is clearly a mess with Barney Frank and DOdd in the very middle, at the bottom of the swamp.

So now, why don't you sahre these "lies" by Palin in teh debate? What were they and why (I shared with you so you could sprcifically google it).

In other words, though you spew Demo talking points, share with us EXACTKY what the lie was about the health plan (don';t just say "lie" ----explain the data behind your claim).

Finally, ANYONE who finds MSNBC, CNN, or any NBC affiliate to be unbiased truly has a sadly warped sense of fair.

Anyone catch the lovely "Witch Doctor" video Bill Maher had on of Palin this week?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIcnAt4fYTw

Scroll to 3:58 it starts!

Anyone who thinks, male or female or ANY other demographic, that someone who believes in this should have power over others should not be allowed to vote!

Wow! Way to dodge the issue! The issue is not that she supported the bridge; it is that she lied about before a nationwide audience in the most important moment of her political life. And the McCain-Palin campaign followed up this lie with a television commercial that made the same claim.

And, yes, I am sure there are many examples of Joe Biden, Barack Obama and John McCain being less than candid. It comes with the territory, and Democrats are no better or worse than Republicans. But don't go thinking that Sarah Palin is somehow different because she's never been to Washington. Lack of candor is one the few areas where Gov. Palin apparently does measure up to the seasoned vets.

Try getting your information from MSNBC, CNN, or some other non-biased mainstream source next time. Then again, that might upset your worldview a little, because they're not telling you what you want to hear.

-------------------------------------

Anonymous: Are you really trying to make the case that MSNBC and CNN are non-biased mainstream news sources? Have you ever watched Keith Olbermann? try watching it sometime and then tell me it is unbiased. The problem with the left is their inability to recognize their own.

As a Gov, her allegiance is to the citizens of her state.

If the Fed will give you money, especially when the Feds don't let you earn your own via energy, you accept it.

As a Senator or Pres, your allegiances are first to the Country as a whole. Thus, the Senate is guilty of the Bridge.

Let's add here that Both Biden AND Obama STRONGLY supporteds the Bridge to Nowhere, even AFTER it was clear it was going down in flames.

Finally, a little civil government tidbit for you: Only a Senator can ask for an earmark. A Gov CERTAINLY can't.

"Polls? Luntz and Drudge (over 500,000 respondents) had Palin winning by ovewhelming margins. Fox News had her ahead by about 4 points. CBS and CNN had Biden well ahead."

Those were surveys, not polls. Surveys are not reliable as measures of public opinion.

As for Biden supposedly lying, it was the height of chutzpah for Sarah Palin to claim in her speech at the Republican Convention that she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere. She was in favor of the bridge when she campaigned for governor two years ago, and only flip-flopped on the issue after it was already politically dead in the water.

Of course Fox news had her ahead, they're a well-known right wing news source. Anyone who denies this is simply lying to themselves. Try getting your information from MSNBC, CNN, or some other non-biased mainstream source next time. Then again, that might upset your worldview a little, because they're not telling you what you want to hear.

Palin straight-out lied in the debate - about the McCain health care "plan", Obama's supposed "tax increases" for families and businesses, and the hilarious lie that McCain called for reform for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, just to name a few - but I don't see you making a mention of that...funny.

Let's see ---- over 9 hours of tape, and we get to see about 6-8 questions. One of them is "What do you read?" Can anyone out there say "editing?"

I didn't hear Palin boo hoo-ing about the Couric interview. I heard her saying SHE screwed up by being flippant. I gues many of you arent't used to someone actually taking accountability.

I am pretty sure she did a sit down interview with Fox News, and as I recall the questions were heavily based on policy. So what was your point again?

Polls? Luntz and Drudge (over 500,000 respondents) had Palin winning by ovewhelming margins. Fox News had her ahead by about 4 points. CBS and CNN had Biden well ahead.

What does an interview have to do with the ability to do a job? It just means you know how to bullshit and talk! I will take action any day. Experience, too, for that matter. I will also take honesty (though I know in the pressure of a forum/debate plain mistakes can and do occur).

Print out the debate and look up the data --- Mr Biden not only ws wrong, but clearly lied in more than a few spots. The most blatant was claiming he and Obama worked with the French to chase Hez out of Lebanon in 2005 (or since?). Never happened. Pure fact.

Biden had the advantage of 36 years in teh Senate, yet didn't really do that well or we would not be arguing.

Your comments on Palin are biased, narrow minded, and unbecoming. You would do better to attack her policies than her personally.

Finally, watch the next 30 days. There is a bomb coming, baby! The far left will not like it.

Before I read your post, everything I'd read said Biden won the debate, though Palin acquitted herself well. After reading your post, I spent 10-15 minutes Googling trying to see if I'd missed something. Still can't find anything to support your viewpoint. Even Fox News' unscientific poll has Biden in the lead. So please tell us specifically which polls have Sarah Palin winning the debate?

To: By Anonymous on October 3, 2008 3:41 PM

You're missing the point. By these news outlets saying she "won" doesn't mean she won. It's because she didn’t lose. Because she didn't have the tons of gaffes she had in her Couric interview.

It's funny how she doesn't consider Fox News to be part of the "media elite". Well Gov. Palin, I bet Fox News won't ask you the tough questions, now will they?

If she doesn't wanted to be treated in a sexist, double standard way than she needs to put her big girl pants on. She is the one perpetuating that stereotype.

Caribou Barbie aka Gov. Palin, is boo-hooing her interview with Katie Couric.
----------------------------------------------------------
Comments made to Fox News by Gov. Palin:

Palin also commented Friday on her widely-panned series of interviews with Katie Couric, telling Fox interviewer she did not think the CBS News anchor asked enough issue-based questions.

“I did feel there were a lot of things she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are that are represented in our ticket," Palin said. "I guess I have to apologize for being a bit annoyed, but that’s also an indication about being outside that Washington elite, outside that media elite also, and just wanting to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for."

In two separate and lengthy interviews with Couric over the last week, Palin seemed to struggle with a number of answers, including a defense of McCain's record on regulation issues. She also appeared to stumble when relating her views on the financial bailout, her foreign policy credentials, her preferred news sources of news, and a Supreme Court case she disagrees with.

"Man, no matter what you say you are gonna get clobbered," Palin told Fox about her heavily-scrutinized performance. "You choose to answer you are going to get clobbered on the answer. If you choose to pivot and try to go onto another subject that you believe Americans want to hear about, you get clobbered for that too."

-------------------------------------------------------------

We know what their values are and what they stand for! I want to know that she can handle being the President if something happens to McCain! She showed in the Katie Couric interview that she can't! Who exactly does she think she is?!

The only "standard" here is that she by no means meets the bare minimum standard of a Vice President or President, period, end of report.

Caribou Barbie, go back to Alaska!

To hatever on October 3, 2008 2:42 PM :

Why lie, dude?

Almost every poll says she won, (CBS and CNN being the ones that didn't), almost every prognosticator said she won, SHE WON!!

I woyuld even suggest you look up saome of the allegedv "data" Joe threw out there --- Hmmmm, we kicked the Hezbollah out of Lebanon since Jan, 2005? # weeks of Iraq cost morew than 7 years of Afganistan? There were 8 other deliberate lies.

If Gwen I. was on the job, she would have called him on it (Russert would have!)

Sarah Palin did well in debate, to be sure. But to say she "whupped Biden's butt", well, the polls say otherwise. Both of the candidates held their own, which is to say that neither did anything to hurt their respective tickets.

To Anonymous on October 3, 2008 9:31 AM

I don't know which debate you watched, but it certainly wasn't the one from last night. Palin didn't win, she did well but didn't win. Every Republican strategist that was on last night agreed that she didn't win. I remember cramming for finals and having not paid much attention in a certain class but did great in the end because I crammed. Much like Gov. Palin did at McCain's ranch in AZ.

What she did do was dance around most of the questions unless it had to do with energy. Which by the way, her energy plan is more drilling instead of alternate fuels. I'm not totally opposed to drilling but if you started drilling today you wouldn't have anything useful from that sight for 7 to 10 years. We need something NOW!

I also thought she was condescending towards the moderator, Gwen Ifill. And her folksy tone was condescending too!

So much for Palin being dumb or vapid ---- she clearly whupped Biden's butt last night!

So much for +30 years in the Senate and being the head of the of the top committees!

to: By Uhhhh.... on October 1, 2008 8:19 AM,

So you believe everything you read on the dailykos?

Oh, that's right ----foot in the mouth Joe Biden is such a great guy. Once you get past the being kicked out of law school for cheating, then cheating again when he ran for President, then getting a whopping 9500 votes in his primary when he ran a second time.

So, if I get you correctly, you prefer a second-in-line who always cheats and crumbles ONLY when the pressure is high?

Oh, yeah --- can you alienate any more states?

Anonymous @ 9/30 3:29 PM-

We need something different in Washington like a complete buffoon who is a joke to the entire world who can't get in front of a microphone without making an ass of themselves and no matter how many times a question is asked never gives an answer?

Sorry, we've already got one of those in the White House.

Sarah Palin, being asked what magazines and newspapers she reads- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRkWebP2Q0Y

Sarah Palin not only reads newspapers and magazines, she reads all newspapers and magazines... So the question really is, how can Sarah Palin juggle taking care of her pack of children, the responsibilities of vice president, and continue to read every newspaper and magazine on the planet?

Because you know, Alaska is like a microcosm of America, ehh?! You people really want someone in the White House whose strongest credential is that as the governor of Alaska she is supposedly an expert on oil and energy, but believes in a new Earth, with dinosaurs and man coexisting? Just think about that for a minute. She's a self proclaimed expert on oil who thinks the earth was created 6,000 years ago.

How does that even work?

response to Veegish on September 30, 2008 11:36 AM:

V,

I think you miss the point: many of us DON'T want someone ready for Washington.

We are TIRED of Washignton.

We want something different.

Palin is just that.

Obama is also not ready for Washignton (his record speaks clearly to that point).

That is why he HAD been running as an outsider who can change Washington. Unfortunatley for him, it came to light that Obama was just another cog from the Chicago Democratic Machine, and we all got to see that he truly encouraged old-time politics instead of changing it.

Anyone watching the Charlie interview would have to be a little slow to not see he was quite condescending. That has been declared by both teh right & left pundits.

The issue now will be the denate and all 4 candidates moving forward.

Let's hear some policy!

Geesh! Now a single person who I;m sure has no agenda is supposed to impress us as honest and true?

Get a life!

Hey, I know a guy who says he saw another guy who saw a guy doing crystal meth and he looked just like that politician guy from that Eastern state who ran for president and.........

Double standard? No more of a double standard than claiming "disrespect" for her because Charlie Gibson was tough on her. She has done well for herself in Alaska, but that doesn't make her ready for Washington. I think that if Sarah Palin would be more available to the public, through the media, then the focus would turn from the issue of her parenting choices to the issue of her ability to do the job.

PALIN SUPPORTERS PLEASE READ THIS.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-palinreligion28-2008sep28,0,1440865.story

ANCHORAGE -- Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.

After conducting a college band and watching Palin deliver a commencement address to a small group of home-schooled students in June 1997, Wasilla resident Philip Munger said, he asked the young mayor about her religious beliefs.

Palin told him that "dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time," Munger said. When he asked her about prehistoric fossils and tracks dating back millions of years, Palin said "she had seen pictures of human footprints inside the tracks," recalled Munger, who teaches music at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and has regularly criticized Palin in recent years on his liberal political blog, called Progressive Alaska.

The idea of a "young Earth" -- that God created the Earth about 6,000 years ago, and dinosaurs and humans coexisted early on -- is a popular strain of creationism.

Though in her race for governor she called for faith-based "intelligent design" to be taught along with evolution in Alaska's schools, Gov. Palin has not sought to require it, state educators say.

Foghorn Leghorn,

You're right, people feel threatened with Sarah Palin- Threatened with the possibility that a woman who has been unable to pull off a single interview without looking like an idiot could possibly be the next president if McCain gets elected then kicks the bucket. I cannot wait for the entire Katie Couric interview to get released. What actually got aired was a highly clipped up version of the actual interview. Aides are reporting that during the interview, Palin was unable to discuss any major court cases-

------------------------------------
"Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.

The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence."

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/In_reintroduction_Palin_to_do_more_interviews_and_tell_her_story.html
------------------------------------

This is EXACTLY the kind of person we want as Vice President, what's she going to do when she's in office and someone asks her a tough question? Sit there and give them the stink eye until they ask something she has an answer to? I honestly cannot wait until the debates on Thursday. I'm planning on making popcorn!

When Palin makes a complete ass of herself, how will her devoted supporters respond? I'm guessing one of the following-

-Biden is so sexist! He kept attacking poor Palin, how demeaning to all women!
-The moderator was so biased! Of course she kept asking questions Palin didn't know, the whole planet is in the tank for Obama!
-I didn't watch the debates, I hear Palin did great!

Palin quite obviously has been given a set of talking points by her advisors. These rehearsed lines and lipstick jokes is all she has. Forced her off what the McCain camp has trained her to talk about and what she has to say is nonsense. Her response regarding the bailout is nothing more than political catch phrases, jibberish, and butchered premade talking points which have nothing to do with the topic.

------------------------------------
Katie Couric: Why isn't it better, Gov. Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

Gov. Sarah Palin: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the -- it's got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.
------------------------------------

Foghorn Leghorn, please watch this video: http://blip.tv/file/1287551

And get back to me regarding Sarah Palin's "experience". This is a very serious issue. When you're as old as McCain you can go from healthy as a horse to dead as a doornail inside of four years. My great uncle, who was as old as McCain, recently passed away, suffering from a sudden illness. Six months ago he was healthy as a horse, exercised daily, was adamant about walking or biking anywhere he could to avoid driving, etc. When you're that old, things just go wrong, body parts suddenly go bad. While it's true that really ANYONE could just suddenly drop dead or contract a serious life threatening illness, the chances are much greater as you get older.

Do you really want to risk the fate of this country to a woman who either flat out can't answer simple questions about supreme court cases which even highschool students could discuss, or resorts to meaningless blather as she butchers the talking points she was spoon fed?

I just... gah. No one is questioning your allegiance to the Republican party. You can still be Republican and admit that Sarah Palin is an idiot.

Foghorn Leghorn wrote:

"Isn't it interesting that Sarah Palin has more executive experience than BOTH members of the Democratic ticket combined!"

She also has more "executive" experience than her running mate. But there is executive experience and then there is executive experience. Being mayor of a town of 6000 and governor for less than two years of one of our least populous states no more qualifies her to be President than being a Little League manager qualifies one to run a Major League Baseball team.

But if you still think she's ready to be President, you really should watch the Katie Couric interview.

And, yes, I know she is running for Vice President, not President. But the Vice President should be someone is ready and able to be President at a moment's notice.

Double standard? You bet it is!

I think it is great that Palin has been successful while raising five children along with her husband! I think it humorous how jealous (and threatened?) people get by a successful woman.

Isn't it interesting that Sarah Palin has more executive experience than BOTH members of the Democratic ticket combined!

How is this double standard able to exist?

If Biden had the kids and Palin was making the gaffs, we would be hearing about how great Biden is to keep everything going and how Palin has dementia.

"The National Media is in the tank for Obama" Hillary Clinton

Anonymous 2:26pm: I would gladly review that interview if you provided a link with a source to back up your claim. Thanks.

It is being asked because she is a conservative ---- period!

As far as those who are piling on Palin and are using SNL as a point of reference, you might want to review an interview done recently with Lorne Michaels. He was asked about the comedians who would be handling the impressions of the politicians this year, and he responded that he really hoped Fey would come back to do Palin.

When it was mentioned that SNL uses a white, Chicago punk drummer to do Obama, and that he never paradies Obama, but just exactly tries to mimick Obama's movements, Michael's response was as follows:

"We portray Obama heroically, and I see Obama as a hero"

So much for fairness in love, war, OR humor!

Interesting question, and one that has already brought in the "spin machine responders". Typically when the question is asked of a male candidate, or business executive, etc. it is worded in a way that assumes the male has already given up on his family and decided that the candidacy, or position is more important than his family. Not sure if Obama has been asked, "Why are you willing to give up on much (most?) of your daughters upbringing?".

This slant in questioning is already evident with Palin. Double standard? You bet.

As to the people already using this to take pot shots at Palin and dodge the question. All I can say is that you are obviously following your script - you may want to add in a part about being a lifelong Republican, but now you just can't vote for someone as inept as Palin and you are throwing your support behind Obama.

If you don't want to answer the question of the blog, find another location to rant.

It's a fair question. She can't. You cannot be in that position and take care of your family at the same time. One will suffer. You can not slave for two masters.

Maybe she doesn't want to be the main person to raise her kids. I know a lot of women like her who love the notion of daycare. Most have put their career first. Sarah most certainly has, she'll only have a lifetime to regret it.

Well, lets see...ask her if her husband is taking sole or majority responsibility of the kids. If he says yes & he actually is, then no she should not be asked. What percentage of the males in office have that many kids in that age range that are being taken care of by them...even 50% of the duties. Many times their wives are taking care of them because they are busy. Well if she is going to do just as good of a job then....Research shows that those women who work full time outside the home are still doing 90% of the domestic duties. Is it fair then to ask? YES! Those kids should have ideally parents who are sharing responsiblities & if one parent will be tied up with out of home responsibilities, then the other parent should step up to the plate. We just assume that when a man is in office his wife is doing just that. We can not assume that if a women is in office her husband will. Should he? Yes, will he is a whole different question. It is unfortunate, but this is just the way it was first & so now with change it is something that is questioned. If we get to a point in the future where the research shows men are doing 50% then we don't have to ask necessarily, though there still will be individual differences. I would actually be more upset if we did not ask. We would not be concerned about the kids then & I think that would be sad.

Another perspective is she can address those questions as a role model & show to men & women that yes it can be done & this is how. There are many who do not believe it can & so this could be a great way to influence those attitudes.

Should we also be focusing on our country's issues? YES! Lets not forget to make sure she answers them. In fact, I would not be surprised if some republicans are bringing the mommy issue up to deflect her away from answering the main issues. This week's VP debate will be the deciding night for many!

This is comedy gold! We will never know whether she can juggle it or not because Obama and Biden will win.

I'd love to know how many people still think John McCain's choice was a good one! What idiots they all must feel like now. It's a good one for SNL and late night television. She can't put a cohesive sentence together to save her life... unless of course it's coming from a teleprompter.

Hasn't Barack Obama been asked about raising his girls during this campaign as well? It seems to me he has. I don't think there is a double standard here. I think Sarah Palin is clueless and ruthless and I absolutely shudder to think that she is "a heartbeat away" from being President. Certainly if John McCain wanted a woman on his ticket he could have found a better candidate.

Forget about whether she can juggle raising her children as well as the vice presidency, after her recent interview with Katie Couric I'm concerned as to whether or not she can walk and chew gum at the same time.
