Red light cameras should go along with the councilmen and the Mayor after two terms and not three.

Thanks for you responses, Anon and Tim.

The practice of stopping at green lights for fear of getting a ticket will only add to this town's traffic problems, to say nothing of the effect it may have on incidents of road rage. If this becomes widespread, I say we get rid of the cameras entirely.

A stale green light is one that has been green for quite a while and may change to yellow/red at any moment. It's a term often used in driver's ed and defensive driving courses.

Stale green light - light that is about to turn yellow as evidenced by flashing "do not walk" signals.

From the story on red light cameras:

"It does make a difference in the way that you drive," said Mayor A. George Pradel, sharing an anecdote about stopping for a stale green light earlier in the week.

What, I wonder, is a "stale green" light? Is the Mayor now stopping at green lights when he thinks they're about to turn yellow?
