Health care debate far from over

| 33 Comments | No TrackBacks

Even though Washington lawmakers argued for months over federal health-care legislation the issue is not over. U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert R-Hinsdale is calling for a repeal of the law. Check the story here. Do you like your health care coverage. Biggert has Blue Cross by the way. Do you want to see more change or would you like the whole issue to go away?

Obama's policies are terrible, and his administration is in over their heads. He's spending us into an abyss and he has no knowledge of economics.

Yes ---- I put down $250 that the states would prevail at the SCOTUS level.

Ayone laying book on the success or failure of the states opposing the Healthcare Bill?

What a narcissist what the? is!

Now she is taking credit for a juvenile saying that is old as the hills!

The correct quote is: "I'm rubber and you're glue. Everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

I'm flattered that you're now parroting me, but try to do it correctly. Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

what the,

I'm rubber, you're glue ---Bounces off of me and sticks to you!

UK plans to ration basic health services

Progressive Paradise out of money.

Axe falls on NHS services
NHS bosses have drawn up secret plans for sweeping cuts to services, with restrictions on the most basic treatments for the sick and injured.

..............Some of the most common operations — including hip replacements and cataract surgery — will be rationed as part of attempts to save billions of pounds, despite government promises that front-line services would be protected.

What are you--10?

That last post sounds like it was written by a 5th grader.

Explains a lot.

Oh golly!

What the? was not obeyed, so she will shut up and go home!

Waaaaaaaaaa!

It's a waste of time to talk to people like you in an straight- forward way, but I gave it a shot. That comment by Barney Frank about dining room tables comes to mind.

Believe whatever you want. You usually do.

Again, the tent thing has been a mantra of the left for decades (though we all know it is crapola!)

As for your rant on Republicans ---- it is just your pink slip showing again.

Anonymous on July 21, 2010 11:50 AM:

MANY political groups have declared themselves "big tent" over the decades. A big tent party is a catch-all party, any political party that seeks to attract people with diverse viewpoints rather than just those who adhere to a stated ideology. The big tent concept is practiced by both Republicans and Democrats, with the Republican Party voicing a renewed interest in appearing more "big tent" since the election of Barack Obama, while at the same time adopting ideology that is farther to the right of the political spectrum and actually LESS inclusive. See: Jim DeMint, Tony Sutton (I think his name is, the Minnesota Republican party chair; Michelle Bachmann, Republican Purity Test, etc., etc., etc. Lots of talk about "big tents" by many Republicans. I think this big tent is more like a leaky lean-to.

Sorry, whatthe?, but you are wrong.

The Dems have been decalring themselves the big tent for decades.

Thanks to those of you who voted for this nightmare... Now he is considering taxing medical benefits, that should work out really well for the middle class now.

Dude, this article is OVER A YEAR OLD! I heard about this then, but I haven't heard anything since. I have no idea if it's still on the table. Got anything more recent about this? Or are you just trying to revive some old fear mongering?

Anonymous on July 18, 2010 11:47 AM:

Precisely. I said "returning us to the same unsustainable status quo", which it is. I didn't say anything about the status quo being our only option. You did.

Also, the "big tent of freedom" saying is a conservative one, not a liberal one. It was coined by Jim DeMint (R-SC) and used as a Republican talking point for awhile. Still no cracker.

TV,

Is that the same Obama who planned to be a healer, bipartisan, transparent, post all legisalation for days before passage.......

The truth is whatthe? either cannot read her own posts or she is int he state od enial that all uber-lefties find themselves in!

[As a brief reminder, she posted "..returning us to the same unsustainable status quo".]

As a blind follower of the leftist agenda (loyal foot soldier she be!), she cannot help herself when she parrots the dogma that not agreeing with the far left agenda means one favors the existing situation (or pre-existing one, as the case may be).

She somehow cannot fathom that there may be another answer out there that does not include all of the pitfalls, the longterm unaffordability, or the loss of innovation and choice that accompanies the subpar program put forth by her beloved socialist leaders.

She prefers to ignore the scores of suggestions that are out there, that have been put forth by Republicans, less socialist Democrats, and Indees alike.

As a result, her instant response is to attack all who disagree. Is that what they mean by a big open tent?

WHAT THE?

Be more accurate in your comments. I opposed the socialistic Obamacare. I also oppose the existing socialistict state (as in the states of the US) plan.

National access to policies, allow people to buy their insurance direct rather than participate in company plans that discriminate against young people, etc.

When there was real competition here in Illinois, premiums were very reasonable. With several firms exiting, they are skyrocketing.

Monopololies/oligopollies, government regulation and price control, and government programs historically have been failures.

We are replacing one failure with another!! Ultimately worst.

We should note here that the new requirements in the bill do not, and never have applied to the president, vice president and members of the administration, though there have been legislative efforts to change that. And the Associated Press reported on March 24 that Obama plans to get his health care through the exchange.

Dan D:

Ha ha.

We have BCBS corporate insurance, probably much like Judy's. It's great coverage if you can afford it. Those who can usually don't give a fig about those who can't.

You're the one who wanted to leave the health care system as it was. Enjoy writing those checks!

WHAT THE?

Since you like paying so much for BCBS, I will make you happier and send you my invoice!!!

I clearly didn't say the only option is the old status quo. You can't even parrot accurately. No cracker for you.

whatthe? is just parroting the Democrat party line. WT says the only option is the old status quo, which is a talking point of the ultra-liberal left.

Judy B. is just parroting the Republican party line. Since the better program she is in favor of doesn't exist, repeal would only succeed in returning us to the same unsustainable status quo. And since Obama would never sign a repeal, it's also a waste of everyone's time. Like that infamous Republican alternative budget that contained no numbers, this is just more populist rhetoric that has no practical application in the real world.

By the way, we have BCBS too. We pay a bundle for it, but we love it.

OBAMA! Karl Marx would be Proud!

Mr. 77,

You're welcome.

John Q ---------

Thank you for the info and update on the 3.8% tax

To JQP

I agree that the gain from your home will be exempt from federal income tax, but it is far from clear that it would be excluded from the 3.8% capital gains tax enacted to help pay for the new health care initiative. It was my understanding, subject to correction, that the gain on the sale of a personal residence would be included in the calculation for the 3.8% tax --even though it would be exempt from other federal income or capital gains taxes.

By the way, the health care program is going to be very expensive and the money has to be raised from somewhere. Most of the money is in the hands of the middle class, so, despite popular claims to the contrary, I'm pretty sure that the middle class is going to have to help pay the cost. I believe that when the rules are written, in the year that you record the gain from the sale of your home, that gain will result in you be considered wealthy for tax purposes and be taxed accordingly.

Taxes, at all levels, are a function of government spending. Our Governments love to spend. As a result, they have to raise taxes to pay for the spending.

Mr. 77,

The 3.8% tax to which you refer is just the increase in the capital gains tax that will apply to all capital gains for anyone making over $200K ($250K if married, filing jointly). The $250/500K exclusion on capital gains from the sale of your primary residence still applies. In other words, the overwhelming majority of people selling their homes will NOT be paying this tax.

-JQP

The more time that goes by, the more we are finding out about the true cost estimates for this wasteful piece of legislation.

The latest from the CBO, combined with the DocFix, shows that instead of a benefit, the cost wil be at least 250 Bil NOT counting the built-in errors of government analysis & accounting.

The question still remains: why dismantle the best medical care in teh world strictly for the single benefit of making it accessible to everyone?

Why couldn't those idiots figure out how to keep the great medicine AND make it accessible?

Oh, that's right: None of them bothered to even read the damn thing, so why would we expect them to put in the required effort to create a bill that does both?

I had heard that there was also a 3.8 sales tax when you buy a home that is supposed to be fazed in by 2013. It is suppose to fund to fund health care package. What the heck is this!

Obama just won't quit !! Can't wait till the next election and hopefully the health care bill will be repealed!!

Thanks Obama for sticking it to everyone again.

Thanks to those of you who voted for this nightmare... Now he is considering taxing medical benefits, that should work out really well for the middle class now.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jun/14/medical-benefits-could-be-taxed-in-new-reform-plan/

Who benefits from "Change"?

1. Trial Lawyers responsible for at least one third to one half of the cost of any trip to the doctor continue to benefit under "Change".

2. Insurance Companies like those owned by big Obama supporter Warren Buffet benefit because Obama will now force us to by insurance from his friend Mr Buffet.

3. Doctors who don't overwhelmingly support the far left will suffer and have their wages cut, which will attract second and third string individuals as our new crop of doctors.

4. Your new less intelligent, unambitous, and less skilled doctor will have a little chart with pills on one side and symptoms on the other side and from that will be able to tell you which pill to take. Which as the great leader said may just be a pain pill to ease you passing ASAP instead of spending money on your expensive tests and procedures.

I personally know someone who was intentionally murdered by their free Australian doctors. A well known, standard in the USA, surgery would have opened the arteries to their brain. They were told that "nothing could be done". A bold faced lie.

Why, because they had retired and were a drain on the government since they were not paying much in taxes.

Obama said it, "just take the pain pill".
