They had to start somewhere so they started with their own budgets, said new House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. On its first day, the new Republican led House of Representatives made its first budget cut, albeit a small one, 5% of office budgets. This means cutting things like postage and bottled water to the tune of about $75,000 per member of Congress.
Is this encouraging or just window dressing? What's your view of the economy going forward in 2011?

Check out this week's news at NPR ---- the Revenge of Juan Williams!
Viva Juan!
SUN,
Let's start a thread on the upcoming local school board elections.
Is anyone out there happy with the spending by their board?
Are you happy with the new levy increases?
In 203, are you happy with getting stung by the lack of strike protection for Central? The $$$ being paid to a consultant to do wat was originally Fielden's role?
Are you happy with people making a career out of staying on teh school board (regardless of performance, good or bad?
Overall, is ayone else thinking of continuong teh trend from November and just electing anyone who is new and dropping all incumbents?
I am eager to hear from all of you.
Good points all around. If any blogger out there has a specific thread idea please suggest it–on any other thread. BTW "dead" threads do get taken down. I'll check with the tech guy if there is a way to keep popular threads at the top of the page. They are organized by time so every time a new thread is posted it bumps the older ones down.

Sun,
I'm with La Cuc on this. Please! More local topics! We are headed into the election season and there are lots of local issues. If this was a typical forum where we could post our own discussion threads they would already be up there. If the Sun doesn't do it pretty soon someone else is going to create a Naperville forum so users can discuss what they want to discuss.
As for the police thread it is still active, so why take it off the main page and inconvenience those who are trying to use this site? How about taking threads down when something like a week goes by with no new posts as a better indication the thread has lost interest?
Mr. La C, I am equally interested in the more local issues, but you must realize this form of expression is nothing more than a sounding board for the few of us that pay attention to these things. So few people really care. Don't blame the Sun for trying to keep people interested in a variety of topics. I do fear though that election day will come and go and our local leadership will still be a mess. On the other hand I am pleased with what the national voters have done. They actually woke up, hopefully not too late. The situation nationally is now optimistic. I'm curious of what your top five wins would be come election day in Naperville?
They understand they can't just talk the talk and have to walk the walk. One can argue either way if 5% is enough, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
There is something in this example of true leadership that a lot of our own local elected officials could learn.
Sun, I have to say that how you run the blogs is bizzare. You have HOT local topics, like the Police layoff issue, that has hundreds of entries, is still going, yet drops off of the page so we can comment on what, National issues? Save that for the Sun Times. Please, start investigating something. This is great grass roots debate.
Could we use fiscal conservatives right now? Can we use a sensible approach to addressing our economic issues? Good riddance Pelosi and thank goodness for even this simple glimpse at a responsible House.
