Is it time to get out of Afghanistan?

| 9 Comments | No TrackBacks

President Obama will announce plans this week to bring thousands of troops home from Afghanistan. Is it time to get out altogether? What exactly should our mission be? Should we still be there now that Osama bin Laden is dead? Should we get out just on the basis of cost alone?

Obama should list Afghanistan on eBay and see what the US can get for it.

And the successor to Osama bin Ladin is......Richard R Furstenau.

The only way to get rid of cockroaches is to kill them. Not being willing to kill the first cockroach because there are a thousand more just leaves more cockroaches to breed more cockroaches. This is the same kind of isolationist misthought that allowed Hitler to survive and his venom to multiply for so long. When you see a cockroach step on it not around it.

We should absolutely pull 100% out of Afghanistan immediately! America cannot and should not be the world's peacekeeper. There is always going to be a group of radicals somewhere in the world that threatens us; if not in Afghanistan, then in some other foreign land. Radical extremists are like cockroaches -- get rid of one and there's still a thousand more. It's time we worry about our own country and about Americans on our own soil.

It is clear you have never been to the ME---- they don't need a reason to hate us, and the latest moves over the past 10years have done nothing to add to what was already putrid hatred.

The only thing the US government and US foreign policy has succeeded in doing with our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan is cement a total hatred for Americans by the muslim world that will be the legacy we leave for all future Americans to deal with for the next couple of thousand years. This "problem" isn't going away easily or any time soon.

The problem in the 80's was that we initially backed a group with weapons, training and support to give someone else their own Vietnam. Which wrong group did we back this time to bite us in the butt another 20+ years from now?

Historically, that territory has always eventually been bad news for any 'superior force' going in there.

The last tume we ran out of Afgan with no plan it began the events that culminated with 9-11.

IF we have a plan for a controlled pullout, than it makes a lot of sense. Only a combo of the military in charge, the Congress & Pres, and the allies can determine this.

If the plan is just to fly out of there now with no input or plan, than No, we should not do that. Again, see the 89 (?) pullout and it's ramifications.

Yes. Out.
