May 2011 Archives

Broadway St., Aurora, Ill

I'm always amazed, as I drive through Downtown Aurora, at the wonderfully crazy and colorful displays in the shop windows along Broadway street.
Usually though, I find myself in a time crunch on my way to another assignment and don't get a chance to stop and make something of these great storefronts.
That changed on Friday as I had a few minutes to wander before my next assignment. I stumbled upon this strapping fellow and his beautifully blue shirt and cowboy hat and had to make a photo or two.

Graduation: Naperville North

As the clouds rolled in Photographer Marianne Mather photographed the Graduation ceremony at Naperville North High School.
What could have turned into a wet and cold night, became, "One of the best graduations I have shot!" said Marianne.
Here are a few from before the festivities began that didn't make it into the gallery.

Graduation: Naperville Central

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The storms held off just long enough for Naperville Central to complete the graduation ceremony for the class of 2011.
I had a hard time narrowing down what photos to turn in because there were so many that I liked. The red gowns of the graduates just played too well off the cloudy blue sky. I was the proverbial, "kid in a candy store" as I walked through the rows of excited, yet freezing cold, seniors.
Here are a few that didn't make the gallery online, but I had to share...

Lightning Delay

A couple strikes of lightning caused Naperville Central's game against West Chicago to be delayed a little bit. What to do with that down time? Play Ball!

Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed thousands of people, was slain in his hideout in Pakistan early Monday in a firefight with U.S. forces, ending a manhunt that spanned a frustrating decade. POW3_04.JPGPalestinian women are seen through the Palestinian flag as they take part in a rally celebrating the signing of a reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas, in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Wednesday, May 4, 2011. International mediators should drop their demand that the Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers recognize Israel, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday, just hours before his Western-backed government was to sign a reconciliation deal with Hamas. The accord, to be inked in Cairo, would end a four-year rift between the bitter rivals and pave the way for a joint caretaker government ahead of national elections next year. Infamy

Last night, President Obama addressed our nation. It was a speech many Americans have been waiting to hear for 10 years.
binladen02.JPG

People watched, not only in this country, but around the world, as the words scrolled across the screen proclaiming the news that the man who claimed responsibility for the attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001 had been killed.
binladen06.JPG

And as the President concluded his speech, "with liberty and justice for all," people poured onto the streets of this country in jubilation, proclaiming that justice had prevailed even though another life was lost.
binladen03.JPG

But around the world, as the death of a radical leader was announced, reactions were not all positive.
binladen04.JPG

Some applauded while others condemned the killing while fueling their hatred for America.
binladen05.JPG

Was it a country's victory or a country's revenge, or- does it matter either way? A man now rests among the thousands he has killed.

And so it will continue, the eyes of the world are on us as we continue to look out the world. We are put back on the defensive with our security heightened, it is in our leaders we must trust to make the right decisions to stay a step above those we fight against.
