Gus Macker mania!

As most of you probably already know, the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament returned to Morris this past weekend.

This Friday's Southwest Weekly addition will feature several stories and photos of the event that attracted more than 1,000 players.

Articles will feature a look at Julie Applegate's experiences running her first tournament, some profiles of the players and highlights of the volunteers who made it all happen.

We had at least five staff and freelance writers covering the event in one way or another, and a couple of photographers.

Unfortunately due to the severe weather the games had to wrap up earlier than expected, but considering, it all ran pretty smoothly. You will be able to read Applegate's take on this Friday.

This was the sixth year for the event, which takes over the streets of downtown Morris. It allows kids and adults from all over to come out and participate in good healthy competition and brings in thousands of dollars for the town's local organizations that volunteered for the event.

Don't forget to pick up your copy of The (Joliet) Herald News Friday. Southwest Weekly is inserted inside the daily paper in all copies delivered to Grundy County. You can also read it online at www.heraldnewsonline.com. Once you're on the site scroll down the home page and the Southwest Weekly link is on the right side of the page under the news links.

Happy reading!
