Thank goodness my boyfriend forced me to eat ice cream

At like 10:30 p.m. Monday I was all ready to get into my PJs and start settling down when my boyfriend pops into the room and says "Lets go get ice cream!"

Since I'm trying to watch what I eat I immediately say no. Of course he proceeds to grab onto me and starts begging and using the cute baby voice and at which point I give in. But not without a lecture on what a bad influence he is and when I get fat I don't want to hear any complaining.

Once we get to the first ice cream place it is closed because who wants ice cream at 11 p.m. on a Monday, right? We then drive 10 minutes further to find an open place where I order a small soft serve twist trying to be conservative and my boyfriend orders a large turtle sundae.

Once I finish waiting for him to finish, of course taking a few bites of hot fudge myself, we head home.

By the time we are on our way it is about 11:30 p.m. As I am yapping his ear off about my day we stop at a light and he notices this little old lady who is having car trouble in a not so safe neighborhood in Joliet and definitely not at a good hour.

Come to find out there was a problem with her starter and my mechanic boyfriend would have no trouble fixing it, except we drove my car and I have not one tool or even a flash light in my car. If she had needed emergency hand lotion or lipstick, we would have been set.

So by cell phone lights and with the use of a metal thingamabob from my trunk (which came with the car I might add) he jumped her starter.

We then had her follow us to our home so he could fix another thing or two and then we followed her home to make sure she was safe and sound.

The little old lady was so thankful she shoved money into his shirt pocket, which we of course threw back onto her passenger seat when she wasn't looking. The good feeling after doing a selfless deed is enough.

Since Monday all I've really wanted to do is buy her a cell phone and lecture her three sons that she went on and on about full of pride, on why they don't buy there mother a cell phone or as my boyfriend pointed out, a better car.

But that is beside the point.

What is the point? I will never argue with my boyfriend again about getting late night ice cream. Not that he would let me even if I wanted to because he will undoubtedly remind me how every time I say no to ice cream that a little old lady will be stuck out on the street all night and who knows what could happen to her.

Great story..........Nice to know there are still kind people out there who would stop to help a little old lady. This story made my heart smile

I love that story! You and the boyfriend are great citizens! (Tell him I said Hi!) It's very few and far between that you'd see someone pull over to help someone on the side of the road. Especially in a not so nice area...

That is a great story! I'm not just saying it because you're my cousin!
