Grundy County's version of The Muppets.

Not too far off, huh?

At Saturday's Morris Police Trivia Mania night I was a part of The Muppets' Team, well technically "The Mahna...Mahna...Mahna Team," which comes from the video below.

The other, more qualified team members included: Caroline Portlock of the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry and her husband Vinny Portlock; Carol Gill, board member of the American Red Cross Grundy County chapter; Julie Buck, executive director of the Community Foundation of Grundy County; Mike Johnson of Joliet; and Chuck Walle of Mundelein.

As we went through the night answering questions and getting to know each other a little better I assigned them each to a muppet in my head. Most notably, I assigned John Davis as Kermit for his endless knowledge of all subjects. As a matter of fact he was smarter than the judges. Come to find out today the judges had an answer wrong and it seems John was the only one who knew the trophy awarded to the Superbowl MVP is the Pete Rozelle trophy.

When I say I was a "part of the team" I use this loosely as I was not a very helpful team member except for a question or two. But even when I knew the answer everyone else was able to come up with it before me. So I stuck to the dip and wrote down the questions. I believe this makes me like Miss Piggy, always late and never stops eating.

Regardless, it was a fun night and all for a good cause. The annual trivia night raises money for Special Olympics. The 21 teams who participated, plus sponsors, raised about $6,000.

The story on the night is in today's Monday in Grundy page, but we only had room for one picture. So here are a few more. Enjoy.

Great job of showing how the Grundy county folks like to have a good time for a good cause--there is nothing like a trivia contest to show how litle any of us really knows---or better yet that by working together all of us prove to be smarter than any of us.

Glad you were part of our team and would be honored to have you on it again

John--I have been feeling a little green lately
