Morris High School sent out this information today hoping to attract those interested in a relaxing afternoon full of beautiful music.
"On Sunday the Morris Community High School Choirs will present their annual "Fall Choral Concert". The concert will begin at 2:00 p.m. in auditorium. The concert will open with combined choirs and will perform the hymn setting of "O God, Beyond All Praising," by Richard Proulx; "Hashkiveinu", by Steve Dropkin; and featured baritone soloist Nick Martorano; and True Light, by Keith Hampton; and soprano, Charlotte Ulrich, as vocal soloist.
The Women's Choir will perform "Hold Me, Rock Me" by Brian Tate; "Bloom" by Philip E. Silvey; " Music in My Mother's House", by Stuart Stotts; and "Still I Rise", with soprano soloist, Maggie Shannon. The Men's Choir will perform "The Awakening" by Joseph M. Martin and "We're the Men" by Jay Althouse.
Select choir members will be performing three works they recently auditioned with at the Illinois Music Educator's Association District 1 Choir Auditions - "At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners" by Williametta Spencer; "Blow Ye The Trumpet" by Kirke Mechem, and "Ton The", arranged by Susan Brumfield.
The MCHS Madrigal Singers will also perform selected madrigals of the 16th and 17th Centuries including, "Never Weatherbeaten Sail" by Thomas Campian; "O Music, Thou Most Lovely Art", by Johann Jeep; "All At Once Well Met Fair Ladies" by Thomas Weelkes; and "Dancing and Springing" by Hans Leo Hassler. Ryan Wendling serves as Student Conductor of the MCHS Madrigal Singers.
The Varsity Choir will be singing "O Vos Omnes" by Giovanni Croce; " Alle, Alle, Alle", arranged by Will Schmid; "Scarborough Fair", arranged by Jay Althouse; " A Highland Love Song", arranged by Owen Goldsmith; and, "Rhythm of Life", arranged by Richard Barnes.
Mr. Paul Jung is the choral conductor of the MCHS Choirs.
The featured piano accompanist will be Jill Kopzick. She will be assisted by Senior student piano accompanist, Lauren Hausken. Members of the MCHS Band will also accompany the choirs on several selections.
The performance is free and all are welcome."
