On Saturday I will not only be a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding, but after I will be running to dinner at Southwest Weekly editor, Mallory Medved's wedding. So by Sunday I will be ready for a nice glass of wine. Thank goodness Sunday is the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry's 4th annual wine tasting.
The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chapin's Restaurant, 701 N. Liberty Street.
This will be my third chamber wine tasting and every year I try to widen my horizons and try a new red since I tend to be a white wine girl.
But in addition to taking advantage of all the good wines I will be introducing my boyfriend Paul to all my Grundy County friends for the first time. You see my boyfriend is a race car mechanic for an Indy team and is usually gone for all the social events. So in his place I usually take my father as my date. (Not to worry, he will be there too Sunday.)
Because of my boyfriend's absence over the last couple of years many have teased that he does not exist. Therefore he has kindly agreed to debut himself to the Grundy world and even try a few wines on Sunday. Lucky for him, this year the chamber has added a "beer tasting" section so he won't be forced to try too many of the red and whites.
The chamber is not only adding beer, but good beer. There will not be a keg in the corner full of Miller Lite, but a selection of Goose Island beers - the good stuff.
If you don't have a ticket for the tasting yet it may be too late to get the cheaper ticket for $30. But you can try giving the chamber a call at (815) 942-0113.
Or you could just show up at the door and buy a $40 ticket. Included in the ticket price is an 18 0z wine glass for you to take home. I know this because I fight with my father every year to keep his so I have an even amount of glasses. I suppose now I will take my boyfriend's and my dad can keep his.
In addition, Chapin's will have food stations set up and auction items including sporting events, theatre productions and wine. All the money goes to the chamber's scholarship fund.
The products tasted will also be available to order, according to the chamber's press release.
And if wine, beer and meeting the mysterious Christina Chapman's boyfriend are not enough, here are some pictures of last year's wine tasting proving fun was had by all.
