Only in the internet world would I ask that question...I'm well aware of the repercussions of posing that to a co-worker.
Overall the weekend in sports was less-than-thrilling, but there were a few things I've still got in my mind.
1) The 1976 Indiana team, the last to run the table in college basketball (32-0), gets to live with that distinction for at least one more year after Memphis was beaten at home by Tennessee Saturday night. They may get to keep that claim to fame for eternity. College basketball is so deep and players are so good that there is NO WAY a team will go undefeated again. Not only does television bring the top teams together more often, but a team that wins the NCAA title now plays closer to 40 games, meaning there are more opportunities to have an off night.
2) Speaking of the Hoosiers, was it kind of funny to hear that deposed coach Kevin Sampson texted all of the players after Saturday's win over Northwestern?
3) Tiger...'nuff said. It's hard to imagine hardcore sports buffs including someone who plays golf in the pantheon of all-time great athletes, but if he finishes his career with, say, 100 wins and 25 majors, how can you not? Guys like Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh are amongst the best players ever, but aren't even in the same league as Woods.
4) Drew Gooden made his first appearance with the new-look Bulls Sunday night in the loss to Houston. How long he stays beyond this season remains to be seen, but Kyle Orton now has competition for who has the most ridiculous beard in Chicago.
5) Rex Grossman? Is that an indication of Jerry Angelo's lack of a clue or the fact that quarterback might be the NFL position that most lacks good talent.
Headline of the day: "Blazing sprints cause NFL prospects' stock to rise"
All of the money that NFL teams spend on scouting and talent evaluation, and draft picks are still drafted by irrelevant areas such as 40 time, 225 pound bench press and vertical leaps! Sure, all of those help, but when you strap on the pads on Sundays (especially in the rain, snow and mud) what difference does it make how fast you can run 40 yards in perfect conditions wearing a t-shirt and shorts? Teams wouldn't make so many draft mistakes if guys were actually picked on how well they can play the game. It's funny how probably half of the players currently on NFL rosters were picked in the third round and beyond since that kind of stuff matters less and less as you go on. Case in point: Just 15 players on the current Bears' roster were drafted in the first two rounds.
