Ok, ok - the live blogging thing didn't happen last night (as you can tell) at the Batavia Night of Hoops. We ran into some technical difficulties, which should have been anticipated because well, we've never done it before. So, read more for some observations from a great night of basketball...
East Aurora vs. St. Joseph
Tomcats coach Wendell Jeffries did not break out The Red Suit, but he was sharp in an all-baby blue coat, pants and matching shoes, to go with a black shirt....
It was a lot of fun watching the Tomcats in the second half - from the full court pressure D to the alley-oop dunks from Andrew Dockery and Tramell Weathersby. In those last 16 minutes, they looked like they could play with anyone around....
On the court, William Brown is a man - and he makes that team so much better. Hopefully his off-court issues have been resolved....
West Aurora vs. Quincy
I will take Markus Cocroft and Marquis Stewart any day of the week - the way those two get down and play man-up is so fun to watch...
I've learned that West isn't going to blow anyone out, blow anyone's mind in terms of their play - but in the end they find a way to win. Will that be enough in a loaded sectional though?...
Batavia vs. Simeon
During pre-game warmups, there's no way I thought Batavia could hang with Simeon. The Wolverines put on a dunking exhibition for the fans and I was really impressed with their foot speed...little did I know that Batavia had that little something exra in them....
I've got to ask Bulldogs coach Jim Roberts if he has a uniform policy - when I saw Nick Fruendt running around with his shorts above his knees, I thought I saw a young Kurt Rambis - 80's shorts and all. But then I realized all the Bulldogs had their shorts cut above the knee. I dunno - it just looked kinda funny....
Finally - it was a great night of basketball. All six teams came ready to play, the competition was fantastic. It's unfortunate that only one of these three teams - or none of them - can make it out of the East Aurora Sectional....
