That chant always makes me smirk at prep basketball games, but I wonder if ACC fans have it tattoo'd after seeing rival St. Francis beat Crane 53-46 on the other side of the Riverside-Brookfield Sectional bracket.
I'll give credit to St. Francis - they started out as the No. 7 seed and had to beat No. 2 St. Joseph to get to this point. And Crane (No. 3) was the highest seed on the other side of the bracket...but I can't help but think that ACC got the short end on the draw....
But I've seen St. Joe in person, and they didn't deserve a No. 2. If anything, ACC should have been on the other side of Marshall.
That means they still would have had to play them in a sectional final (with all their players) and they probably would have had to beat St. Francis (no sure thing)...but - ACC probably played its best game of the year Tuesday night. They scored 62 on Marshall - which would have been 82 on any other team they played during the year.
Seriously.
They had 10 shots within 5 feet that were either blocked or disrupted simply because the Commandos were that quick to the ball with their helpside defense. The Chargers lost because 1. they weren't used to that type of game speed and 2. they couldn't make a shot.
Now, if they were playing Marshall in the sectional final with a full Commandos roster, they might lose by 18...but then maybe they make some of those 3-pointers and keep it just as close. We'll never know...but I can't help but wonder...
