German in Star country

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

He's not closing games but left-handed pitcher Matt German continues to do well in the Phillies organization. Could he be moving up the organizational ladder soon? Stay tuned.

The former Marmion Academy and Northern Illinois University standout who signed as an undrafted free agent last June, was named to the Florida State League (Class A) All-Star team last week. He's one of three players from the Clearwater Threshers selected. The game is June 14th.

German, who had a 1.54 ERA in his first pro season, has started strong in his second year. He continues to work out of the bullpen and opened with a seven-game scoreless streak, allowing three hits while limiting batters to a .094 ERA in that span with 13 strikeouts.

In 14 appearances with 22 innings pitched he is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA having allowed 14 hits, walking 11 and striking out 24.

The next rung for German on the Phils' ladder would be the Class AA Reading (Pa.) Phillies.
