Good morning, and thanks for visiting.
Three weeks ago, The Beacon News reported on the IHSA decision to include a prayer ban in its terms and conditions for hosting an IHSA state series event (i.e. regional, sectional, state contests).
The story led to several opinions for and against the IHSA's decision. Today, we ran a follow-up on the story with updated information and different perspectives.
We'd like to you to continue the conversation by commenting on this blog post, or by e-mailing us at beaconsports@scn1.com
Thanks for participating!

I'm glad you covered this little piece, due to the direct impact it has on me. I'm an Aurora Christian graduate, and for the past few years I have been the "Voice of the Lady Eagles". Now I admit that during the games, I'm a homer; opposing baskets I'm almost monotonous and home baskets I get excited. But when it comes to our pregame tradition of the prayer, I try to make that as beneficial to both teams as possible. Giving thanks for both schools, praying for the safety of players on both sides, the line at the end about "regardless of the final score". I'm not trying to brag, I'm not trying to force my views onto other people, nothing like that. But I don't see the harm in doing an over-the-PA prayer. If people don't like it, they don't have to join in the prayer if they don't want to. But it works both ways; those who don't like the prayer idea can't force their views on me by being disrespectful during the prayer.
