The buck(s) stopped with Larry English.
At least that's the story making rounds according to a Sporting News blogger and on Yahoo Sports
They report that the San Diego rookie from Aurora continued a Charger tradition for first-round draft picks by picking up the tab for a team dinner designed to build camaraderie.
The cost? According to a receipt pictured on a Twitter update by teammate and fellow linebacker Shaun Phillips: $14,08.67. That included a 17 percent gratuity of just under $1,900.
Fellow linebacker Shawne Merriman claimed his dinner cost him $32,000. And in 1998, QB Ryan Leaf balked at the tradition, although it's reported linebacker Junior Seau lifted his credit card to pay a $3,000 tab. Must have been at a bistro featuring one of the first dollar menus.
But with a reported $9.9 million of his five-year, $13.4 deal guaranteed, English can obviously afford it. Once.
