Dear Swami: I hear that Former Speaker Dennis Hastert has decided to bow out of Congress. Is that true.? Will you pile on too or do you think that he has been a maligned public servant?
Dear oddly constructed political observer: Swami sees through the veil of the mystical mysteries and sees Hastert not only not running in 2009, but even stepping aside soon. We can only hope.
Dairy Dittohead Jim Oberweis could his seat because Illinois Republicans are very loyal to the fellow partiers who lose. Oberweis has run for everything but dog catcher (and lost), but Hastert could give him the parting gift of a free year in Congress.
Swami believes that Hastert is one of the worst congressmen to ever serve in Illinois’ name. He is saved from being in the pantheon of scallywags because some of them have faced felony charges and been sent to jail. Hastert isn't in jail yet, unless our crystal ball had a power failure and we didn't get the notice.
“If he is leaving, he will have been a tremendous leader for Illinois and for the nation," state Rep. Tom Cross of Oswego, the GOP leader of the Illinois House, told a newspaper this week. This is why we generally think politicians are whack jobs. They say things even a Swami I couldn’t with a straight face.
