Swami wishes to announce a statewide traveling political circus with House Speaker Mike Magigan serving as ringmaster. You might want to join in the fun, but sorry, bucko. Swami has bad news for you. Read on ....
Madigan is holding hearings across the state in which citizens, constituents, various feeders at the public trough and general hangers-in can show up and call Gov. Rod Blagojevich rude names for cutting $500 million out of the state budget. It's great fuin.
Generally Swami views these public incinerations as a positive step because anytime you can call Blagojevich a numbskull is a great idea, at least to us. It's a public meeting so he can't have his state police gendarmes bust your head and get away with it
The only fly in the ointment, the only monkey in the wrench is that Madigan somehow has scheduled 19 of the hoo-rahs without ever stepping foot into Lake County, the state's third most populous county.
They're going to Cicero and Joliet, and Decatur.
But not Waukegan.
He's going to Rock Island, Marion, Kankakee and Champaign.
But not Gurnee or Libertyville or Antioch of even the richest towns on the planet - Barrington, Lake Forest, Highland Park. You sort of figure they already bought all the access they could ever use. Holding a public hearing about the plight of downtrodden in Lake Forest wuld be piling on, even for Madigan.
He's even going to McHenry County, for crying out loud, and NOTHING of importance ever happens in McHenry County.
Of course, he's gonig to a half-dizen Chicago joints.
The Senate, from which no coherent thought ever escapes, intends to convene on Monday and Tuesday to consider transit and capital legislation. The latter apparently would be funded with a gaming package to include three new casinos. No clear sign yet if one of them will be in Waukegan, but considering the legislature's recent efforts, we'd bet against it. The plan is rumored to be kicked around in committee on Monday with a floor vote maybe Tuesday.
