Mee-ow!!!

Maybe it won’t be the closest race around, but Swami sure anticipates the head-on battle between Democrats Melissa Bean and Randi Scheurer for the 8th Congressional District nomination. Scheurer has called out Bean on the Iraq War. It’s ugly and it’s only 2007. We've got a whole year to go. Swami sees great fun ahead….

When Randi Scheurer identifies herself as the “Ill.-8th District Peace Candidate”, you sort get the direction this race is going. (And this Swami Aside to the person who emails us on this topic: Hey, Maroonl Randi is a Woman!)

Melissa Bean’s campaign forces must be feeling a little heat because they are sending out press releases identifying Bean as the anti-war candidate. Nothing like catching a wave in mid-splash. Swami likes to be as generous as the next turban-wearing mystic from the East, but Bean’s record on the war isn’t quite “anti.” It’s more, “we should fight the war better” and “support our troops.”

There’s now doubt where Scheurer stands on the issue, though it still unclear how “anti” the 8th District is.

It’s always been far more conservative than otherwise and even kept one doddering right-winger in office after he went so far around the bend he couldn;t find his way home. (Remember Rep. Crane?) Scheurer makes Cindy Sheehan looks like a war monger.

But Scheurer’s press releases are much more amusing than Bean’s. Politics should be nothing if not amusing.

In Scheurer’s latest, her staff doesn’t actually quote her on what she thinks about Bean’s war position. It quotes Scheurer’s HUSBAND saying what HE thinks about his wife.

"The incumbent lacks the moral integrity and political spine to make a clear statement on the war," Bill Scheurer says in a release. "It appears that she is not against the war, but only against the way the other party is managing it. What does she (Bean) want -- to 'redeploy' the troops, or to bring them home?" In drawing out the false positioning of Bean as now being like another Randi Scheurer, her husband replies, "I know Randi Scheurer. Randi Scheurer is a friend of mine (in fact, we have been married 37 years). Democrats, don't be fooled again: Melissa Bean is no Randi Scheurer."

Swami is glad that Mister Schuerer can tell the difference between the two women, but we’d sure like to hear more from Randi on the topic of Randi. And, by the way: Sorry, Bill, but you already ran last time and lost. Could you just go sit quietly in the corner?

In fact, our new campaign motto: “Let Randi be Randi.”

Does Swami have a thought or comment about the rumor that Sheriff Curran is being considered as a candidate for States Attorney?
