Through two weeks, the Swami's eight ball globe of foretelling has produced 22 wins and 10 losses, which Swami considers barely acceptible. Last week Swami was 10-5. We shake the black spheroid of knowledge and the winners begin to appear in the magic, mystical portal. And they are ...
Mundelein 20, Round Lake 7 – Mike Petlak runs an efficient Mundelein offense, that features speedy Jamal Ross and Brian Arnold. The Mustangs need this game to keep playoff hopes alive. Nothing motivates like fear, and, of course, hunger.
North Chicago 31, Wauconda 30 – A year ago, running back Brad “The Wiz” Wisniewski carried the ball more than 50 times and gained more than 350 yards to lead the Bulldogs to an upset win. He’ll be unstoppable again in this game, but the Warhawks have enough speed with Jimon Hill and Ondre Thomas to win a track meet. On your mark ...
Vernon Hills 21, Lakes 13 – QB Randy Ratajczyk had a huge game for Lakes in a loss to Crystal Lake Central last week. This is pretty much a must-win for the Lakes Eagles if they hope to get to five wins and make the playoffs.
Waukegan 12, Maine East 0 – With star QB Mar’Quezie Edmonds out momentarily with a broken bone in his left (non-throwing) wrist, the ball is in the hands of untested junior Burke Morrill. Fortunately, Maine East is bad (bad to the bone) and Waukegan’s defense should score once or twice.
Marian Catholic 28, Carmel 14 – Austin Heinrichs saved Carmel last week with a last-second field goal to beat Libertyville. But in order for that to happen again this week, the Corsairs will need to be close at the end. That will entail some work. Marian is 2-0 and good.
CL South 42, Grayslake Central 0 – These crossover games between the small Fox Valley Fox schools and the big Fox Valley Valley schools are killers for our side.
Cary-Grove 42, Grayslake North 0 – See Grayslake Central above.
Lake Zurich 7, Stevenson 6 – The last time Stevenson missed the playoffs was in 1988, when the Patriots went 2-7. A loss here makes them 0-3. LZ is the wrong place to presume they can stop the slide. Swamin is not sure of this pick. But the "8 Ball of knowledge is our only guide.
Libertyville 14, Warren 13 – After falling behind 40-0 at halftime last week against Maine South and starting the year 0-2, there’s no place to go but up for Warren. But not this week.
New Trier 20, Deerfield 14 – Jason Hendel has done a nice job at QB for the Warriors, but the Central Suburban North conference never seems to do well when it plays crossover games against the huge Central Suburban South schools. New Trier remains of thre Evil Empire.
Glenbrook South 28, Highland Park 14 – See Deerfield above.
Grant 30, Antioch 7 – The Bulldogs have three real thorobreds, led by QB Pavel Zurkowski who is a real horse. We've even decided to him "the Horse" (as in Ameche). Israel Rodriguez is the power back even though he’s just 180 pounds. The speedster is wideout Tommy Bykowski. Antioch is also 2-0 and claimed the Grayslake City Championship (such as it is) by beating Grayslake Central and Grayslake North back-to-back.
Chicago Christian 20, Lake Forest Academy 14 – Second straight home game for Caxys who are not eligible for IHSA playoffs even if they win five games.
Upset Special: Zion-Benton 14, Lake Forest 13 – Lake Forest beat Deerfiield 14-6 and Deerfield beat Zion-Benton 24-0, so this one doesn’t add up. Swam i is nop so good on adding. Except that Zion’s defense is for real. LF wide receiver Kevin Finney, 6-foot-6 and fast, will be a key. He caught nine balls last week.
