Swami, have you seen the new Google maps system that allows people to look right at your house? Isn’t this an invasion of privacy? Help me, oh wise one. Signed: Fearful of the spies
Dear fearful, it would be lots scarier (and will be) when the camera shot is a live camera peeper shot taken within the last 10 seconds and linked to space satellite for instant viewing.
The technology doesn’t go that far now, because Swami found his house easily and it shows construction trucks on the nearby street. They haven’t been there for at least a month.
So, we’re safe for now.
Google responds to those want who their address removed from the data base by saying they’ll do it, no problem, sir or madam. But those who have tracked the issue say Google isn’t nearly as attentive to removing addresses as it is to adding them.
In its preview of the system several months ago, Google reps said the system would expand to cover Chicago as one of the half dozen major cities under the satellite’s gaze. But in truth, the system now covers most of Lake County, too.
When the cameras go live, it will be a great way to see if your teenager is having a forbidden party while you are gone.
