Yes, but was he naked?

Swami was surprised and heartened by Waukegan Mayor Dick Hyde’s 80th birthday party on Wednesday. He still can sit up and eat all by himself. Better than the Swami on some days. And it got Swami to wondering, as he often does in his pensive ode, about old things. So we went to extremescience.com to see how old Hyde is in comparison to the really old things.

Woodsman, spare that Amstutz

Dear Master Swami: Shame on State Rep. Eddie Washington for his attempts to rename the Amstutz Expressway after former North Chicago Mayor Bobby Thompson … How would he feel if someone attempted to rename Martin Luther King Drive after someone else? I rest my case. Leave the Amstutz Expressway alone. Signed: Peeved in Waukegan

On a roll with Drew

Mister Swami: So, did Drew Peterson wheel his wife’s body out their Bolingbrook home in a blue drum? And what IS a blue drum anyway? Is it like a tympani or a snare drum? And why would be it blue? Signed: Very confused in Libertyville.

Is he guilty?

Oh, wise Swami: Is Drew Peterson guilty or does he just play a guilty person on TV? And by the way, how does a 54-year-old man get a 17-year-old wife anyway? Some of us here at the bar just wanted to know, and we figured if anyone knew, it would be you. Signed: Hopeful in Gurnee.

And the champion is ...

For the record, the Swami has picked Lake Zuricc to win for 13 consecutive weeks. This crystal bsll work isn't as hard as it seems. And since the Bears are 12-1, the only miss was the team’s Week 1 last-second upset loss to Palatine Fremd. And now for the biggest game of the uear

And then there were 2. Carmel and Lake Zurich. Lake Zurich and Carmel.

The winner gets either Wheaton-Warrenville South or East St. Louis the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the IHSA Class 7A championship game.

So far this playoff season, The Swami is a glossy 13-1, and with just three games to pick (2 this week and next week’s championship game) a winning record in the playoffs is assured.

Bean at war

Sometimes Swami is just befuddled. He sees the words and knows generally what the words mean. But sometimes even a crystal ball can't decipher what in the heck politicians are saying. Theymight as well be speaking Urdu. Like U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean talking about her trip to Iraq .....

You bet your life

The guy who shills on TV for the Potawatomi casino in Wisconsin says you’ll come away from the tables with great stories, but whom you tell depends on you. He’s was not just mouthing a PR slogan. Swami believes that Barbara Ann Mende had a great story from the tales there, and but she certainly didn’t tell anyone.

Swami's grid playoff picks

For the record, The Swami’s crystal ball has foreseen Carmel’s playoff victories over Crystal Lake South and Glenbrook North, and also foreseen Lake Zurich’s playoff victories over Wheeling and Rolling Meadows. So what lies ahead for our area’s two best high-school football teams? Swami reveals all ..

Sad Old George

What does Swami think of disgraced and apparently befuddled ex-Gov. George Ryan? Maybe he should take up the same noble quest as O.J. Simpson. They’ll both be out searching for the really guilty person……

We love the Carp

Swami says the Cubs should forget about Mark Prior and Kerry Wood for their future and start concentrating on pitchers that are REALLY good. They’ll all in Japan right now and one of them might be willing play in Wrigley. His name is ….

Swami fears the city of Waukegan is going about the business of fixing the harbor in the wrong way. If you just bully everyone who disagrees with you, those folks aren’t likely to be your allies. Does Waukegan have any allies left? Not unless you count the ones they pay to be their shills. Read on, Gentle Readers ….

Homophobe hobgoblins

Swami takes note that Halloween (his fave time of the year) was last week. You could tell because all the usual homophobe hobgoblins , tightly wound religious watch fobs and the Constipated Corps of Carnal Cops were on the loose.. They were astride their brooms and sailing through the autumn sky. Why? There was a picture of a gay couple in the newspaper and, ooh boy, the cauldron was bubbling. Some people are deeply worried about who is canoodling with whom…Swami has some ideas about that……

Swami picks playoffs

Enough already. The Swami can’t be right ALL the time, can he? Last week’s 8-1 effort would have been a perfect 9-0 except for the Grant Bulldogs, who foiled the Swami’s bid for perfection by knocking off Chicago Simeon even though four Bulldog starters who accounted for six starting positions sat out the game due to a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules.. And while we are happy for the Bulldogs – and especially happy for the real, live Bulldog named Mac pacing as only a Bulldog can do on the Grant bench – at the same time, we vow not to make the same mistake again. Or do we? Ha!
And so …
