Swami picks playoffs

Enough already. The Swami can’t be right ALL the time, can he? Last week’s 8-1 effort would have been a perfect 9-0 except for the Grant Bulldogs, who foiled the Swami’s bid for perfection by knocking off Chicago Simeon even though four Bulldog starters who accounted for six starting positions sat out the game due to a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules.. And while we are happy for the Bulldogs – and especially happy for the real, live Bulldog named Mac pacing as only a Bulldog can do on the Grant bench – at the same time, we vow not to make the same mistake again. Or do we? Ha!
And so …

SATURDAY’S PLAYOFF GAMES

Class 6A

Lemont (8-2) at Grant (10-0) –Never again shall we pick against the “Horse,” Grant QB Pavel Zurkowski. Who do yuh luv? The Swami LUVS the Bulldogs: Grant 24, Lemont 23.

Class 7A

Rolling Meadows (9-1) at Lake Zurich (9-1) – Lake Zurich’s seniors have been there before. The Bears placed second in the IHSA Class 7A playoffs last year. Rolling Meadows’ top running back has just 526 yards in 10 games and the QB has thrown for an average of 112 yards per game. Not eye-popping. The way to beat LZ is through the air. Instead, look for the air to go out of the Rolling Meadows Mustangs’ balloon. Lake Zurich 24, Rolling Meadows 7.

Class 7A

Carmel (8-2) at Glenbrook North (9-1) – For the four years that Jon Scheyer was attending Glenbrook North, this was a basketball school. Now, it’s suddenly a football power? The Swami thinks not. Carmel 20, Glenbrook North 19.
