Swami's grid playoff picks

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

For the record, The Swami’s crystal ball has foreseen Carmel’s playoff victories over Crystal Lake South and Glenbrook North, and also foreseen Lake Zurich’s playoff victories over Wheeling and Rolling Meadows. So what lies ahead for our area’s two best high-school football teams? Swami reveals all ..

IHSA Class 7A playoffs

Carmel (9-2) at Chicago DeLaSalle (9-2) -- The biggest checkmark on the DLS side actually has to do with one of the losses … a one-point setback to Chicago Mt. Carmel, which is unbeaten, untied and holds a one-point win over super-power Joliet Catholic, which beat Carmel three weeks ago by somewhere between 1 and 97 points.

Carmel’s a bunch of over-achievers, as the Corsairs don’t pass the ball very well and don’t have any outside speed when they run the ball. Still, they seem to find a way to win. The Swam sees them finding their way one more time: Carmel 20, DLS 13.

Lake Zurich (10-1) at Rockford Boylan (10-1) – This is a rematch of last year’s semifinal-round game won by Lake Zurich. Neither team is as good as last year. Boylan is completely untested, having played all nine regular-season games against NIC-10 (conference) foes and then beating two of them for a second time in two playoff games. Boylan is offensively challenged, and alternates QB’s on every snap. They're sort of like Notre Dame, except much better. That swappinhg quarterbacks may work against the Chicago Bears, but not against our Real Lake County Bears: Lake Zurich 13, the Titans of Rockford Boylan 0.

Last week: 2-1 (picked Grant to beat Lemont, as well as Carmel and LZ to win)

Playoffs to date: 8-2 (missed on Grant both times, but we won;t miss anymore on them this year)
