And then there were 2. Carmel and Lake Zurich. Lake Zurich and Carmel.
The winner gets either Wheaton-Warrenville South or East St. Louis the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the IHSA Class 7A championship game.
So far this playoff season, The Swami is a glossy 13-1, and with just three games to pick (2 this week and next week’s championship game) a winning record in the playoffs is assured.
So here, we go, ladies and germs...
Wheaton-Warrenville South vs. East St. Louis – The DuPage Valley Conference is the best prep football conference this side of the Chicago Catholic League. W-W South is a traditional Class 8A powerhouse that dropped down to Class 7A this year because of a smaller school enrollment. So far, W-W S looks unstoppable … and it won’t be stopped on Saturday. Wheaton-Warrenville South 34, East St. Louis 20.
Lake Zurich at Carmel – Teams are mirror images of each other . Strong running games. Strong against the run. Unheralded pass defenses. Shaky pass offenses. Good field-goal kickers. Smart coaches. There’s probably potential for overtime here, but the Swami sees otherwise: It’s Duh Bears! Lake Zurich 21, Carmel 20.
