Dear Swami, What a disgrace to Gurnee residents the former mayor (Don Rudny) and his majority block trustee (Tom Chamberlain) have become. WKRS radio featured these two as fill-in … and their listeners certainly got filled full of beans by these two. … Don, the former mayor, is Tom's adult sitter and tag teams with Tom to provide a constant flow of partisan spun misinformation. Signed: Groggy in Gurnee
In case you wondered, the Internet airwaves have been ablaze this weekend after former Gurnee politicos Tom Chamberlain and Donald Rudny showed up on local radio and apparently irritated folks. Irritated folks REAL good.
Here’s what the appearance and its aftermath reflect in local politics.
1: We don’t know how many pains in the gluteus maximus there are living in Gurnee, but they certainly are angry.
Most of them use some variation of the Donlovestom@comcast.net or truthteller7@comcast.net or recycledgurneetrash@hushmail.com addresses to gush venom. Different emails addresses but they all say the same thing in much the same language, which means either that everyone in Gurnee thinks exactly alike, or there’s one hostile, miserable, toxin-spewing loser who uses multiple e-mail addresses.
Send him email notes. He’ll appreciate it.
2: It only reinforces Swami’s previously stated view that there are few more hostile environments for politics than small towns where nothing much important happens and every difference of opinion becomes a loud shouting match between really small people. These places (does the name Park City ring a bell?) are seething hot beds of intrigue and conspiracy.
Swami knows that, by and large, most people who live in Gurnee are law-abiding, genteel folks with a good humor about life and a sweet disposition. But the people who want to run things there certainly are a bunch of mean-spirited louts.
The irony in this latest episode is that WKRS (ham radio, if we've ever heard it) barely reaches Gurnee anyway and most the people there couldn't even hear the blasphemers on the air. WKRS is powered by a small squirrel in a treadmill generator.
"...there are few more hostile environments for politics than small towns where nothing much important happens and every difference of opinion becomes a loud shouting match between really small people."
Truer words were never spoken, Swami.
Gurnee isn't the only village where some few want to have us life long residents give up all we have aquired rights and property so they can tell us what we can do with it and on it!! It use to be a great town to live in (Wauconda) now we have to watch what we say and do so BIG BROTHER in the village hall don't punish us. wandr2@webtv.net
