Oh, wise Swami, what does the crystal say about this weekend’s Super Bowl? Who wins and will Janet Jackson suffer another wardrobe malfunction? Signed, Hogtied in Hoboken .
Dear Hogtied,
Just sit still. Help is on the way to free you from your confinement.
Meanwhile, the Patriots win 24-21. But we could be wrong.
Meanwhile redux, here are some folks eho have decided the Super Bowl is “family friendly” and they want it kept that way.
Maybe the NFL is part of that “we must protect American culture from the hordes of illegal immigrants” movement we’ve heard so much about.
Under the heading: Will the Super Bowl be Family Friendly? (They didn’t use a question mark but I gave them one for free) the “Concerned Women for Ameica” have issued a fatwah against stray mammaries and other indecencies at the Super Bowl.
Honest. This is the group‘s name, and this is what they’re worried about.
WE report, you judge:
“WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- "We have high hopes that this year's Super Bowl will be a family-friendly affair," said Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA). "Even though the networks are aggressively fighting the FCC's attempts to keep the public airwaves a safe place for children, it would not make good business sense to upset the largest TV audience of the year by broadcasting another offense on the scale of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction."
Wendy Wright, apparently her real name, has a lot on her mind. But we digress from the news release.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) fined CBS for broadcasting the indecent exposure of Miss Jackson during the 2004 Super Bowl. CBS is challenging the penalty and the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to render a decision at any time.
"The Super Bowl has become an American tradition where families gather each year to watch this exciting showdown. Television networks who make this possible should feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction in bringing Americans together. But abusing this privilege by bombarding families with obscenity destroys this good will. Regardless of what the Court rules, networks will harm themselves if they ignore the outcry from viewers to keep the game family friendly." said Wright.
Swami just thought it was another football game where very large men try to hurt each other.
The TV networks are proud of this performance? Swami suggests they’re just trying to make a buck. LIke high-priced hookers with pads.
As to whether the Super Bowl is “an exciting showdown,” we think must not have seen many of them. Most are like watching old shoes mildew while Jackson’s malfunction at least had some zest and surprise to it.
The satirical newspaper The Onion had perhaps the funniest response to this story that I've seen anywhere.
This links to one of their fake news stories, written in 2005:
