Swami, settle a bet for me. Are you a Democrat or a Republican? Or are you just a Democrat pretending to be a Republican, or a Re-publican pretending to be a Democrat? All of Lake County is waiting
Ah, where to begin?
Here’s why Swami generally pays no heed to politics, because it’s based on belonging to a political party and Swami believes, as Groucho did, that he would not consider belonging to any club that would admit him to membership.
Swami likes parties only if they serve good beer.
Being a member of a political party apparently means you must leave your brain at the hat check counter. This penchant to attach value to people and their ideals because they belong to Party A or Party B is particularly silly and, well, stupid.
Who was a better person: Julius Caesar or Bonaparte? And which was a Democrat?
Would your mother have been a better person if she was a Democrat? Would Einstein have uncovered E=Mc-squared faster if he was a Republican?
See, almost nothing that’s really important has anything to do with a political party though very tiny, really teensy-little minds insist on seeing reality through its prism.
And what about Whigs and Tories? Swami thinks there’s no good excuse for excluding some candidate from consideration just because their preferred political party went out of business a few centuries ago.
Swami, on some days, thinks the Bull Moose Party has a lot going for it.
George Washington was a Federalist, and no one seems concerned that Swami might be a Federalist in sheep’s clothing.
For example, in this presidential election cycle Dennis Kucinich wasn’t really a Democrat. He was from the Wham-Zoom Wing of the Fly Me To Neptune Party, and no one would have paid any attention to him if he didn’t have that totally BOFFO wife.
Truth is, Swami often doesn’t vote because he firmly believes there is far too much vapid idiocy in the political party system and participating in the lunacy only urges them on to more of it.
Swami much prefers the foreign systems where they have 20 political parties, most of which sort of look like each other except that one represents the nationalist interests of Northern Slobovia, the other represents the imperial aspirations of Southern Slobovia and the rest would just as soon blow up all of Slobovia.
