Dick comes to town

Swami, I see that the vice president is coming to the Great Lakes Naval base this week. What brings him here? Is there anything sinister with his appearance? Signed: Disbarred lawyer from Deerfield

Ah, where to begin?

When it comes to the Veep, there is something always SINISTER. And am I the only person a little antsy that he’ll be around so many guns?

We hope he gets out of town without declaring war on Iran.

Here’s what Swami suspects about the timing of his visit.

The White House keeps Cheney mostly under wraps these days and away from people who think for themselves; so he’s a perfect fit to visit a military base on the day swabbies are being inducted into the real Navy. You wouldn’t want Cheney anywhere where protestors and doubters might see him.

We’ll be very interested to see which of the usual Republican suspects will be on hand to share the stage: Mark Kirk who normally gets on any stage anywhere during a campaign? Maybe the newly re-elected Lake County GOP chairman?

The U.S. military is required by law, regulation and history to salute him. Considering his record for the last decade, the Great Lakes base is one of the few places on the continent where no one would will boo and hiss at The Dark Prince of D.C.

Further, ever since last summer they’ve kept Cheney rolling on the Underground Railroad where he makes intermittent stops at We-Love-the-War-And-Want-Another-One-Real-Soon events sponsored by wing nut organizations of one sort or another.

It’s all part of the prepping Cheney is doing for his post D.C. career on the wingnut welfare speech-ifying tour where, if he’s as saleable as Bubba has been, he’ll be raking in 50s g’s a visit to tell smart bomb fans how the Iraq War was a great idea, and we’re all better off now because of it. As are the Iraqi citizens we haven’t blowed up yet.

Cheney's foreign policy mantra is that he will say the war was wonderful over and over. And eventually, he thinks, people will forget we were tricked into the war by people who really wanted it regardless of the facts.

In Dick's world, there stil are WMDs in Iraq, Saddam was a collaborator with al-Qaida and the moon is made of Swiss cheese. Hey, don't blame Swami. We voted for what's his name.

After World War II, we put war criminals on trial, but times have changed. Now we send them on the chicken-dinner tour at taxpayer expense.

I can see why this man is an X lawyer. With an additude like his its a wonder he hasn't been run out of Lake County. We were always loyal Americans no matter who was in office. If you can't back your country go to another and see how far you get with slander like Mr Lawyer puts out. Is that how he became an X ? Thank you for your time and pardon the spelling it's 3:30 in the morning. Ken Dowell
