The Swami wonders if, in the eternal quest to prove that sports elevates the human soul, the folks who run Waukegan High’s football team didn’t miss a chance to educate the young men under their guidance and point to higher goals.
Last week, Swami was 13-1. Season to date, the Wise One is 88-25. Note the losers include 0-7 on upset specials, including last week’s ill-advised support of the Grayslake North Knights who, one week after fooling us with a 31-6 win over equally winless Grayslake Central, reverted to previous and future form. It’s put up or shut up time for a passle of prep football teams, as they strive to reach the five-win plateau needed to be eligible for postseason. Currently, six area teams have four victories, and another four have three wins, meaning some of them will join the four area teams – Lake Zurich, Lake Forest, Carmel & Grant – that already have five wins banked.
