"Hello Officer My name is Jon and I recently bought a car with all the windows tinted (except windshield). I know it is against the law in Illinois to have the front windows tinted and I'm hoping to get the film removed soon; however, my question is, what is the fine if I am pulled over with those windows still tinted?"
Thank You, Jon
The section of law you are referring to is 625 ILCS 5/12-503. Section j states that a person found guilty of violating paragraphs a, b, or i (those referring to having tint or causing tint to be added) shall be guilty of a petty offense and fined no less than $50 nor more than $500. However a second or subsequent offense shall be treated as a class C misdemeanor and the violator will be fined no less than $100 nor more than $500. It also states that "any person convicted shall be ordered to alter any nonconforming windows into compliance with this section." If a judge orders you to remove the tint, and you are later ticketed again, he might consider that contempt of court. Hope that information is enlightening.
