Legally Transporting a Pistol on a Motorcycle

"SGT. Ness, I just bought a motorcycle and would like to know how to legally transport a pistol while I am riding to the range."
mrh

There is no difference in the weapons transportation laws for a motorcycle, although it may pose more of a challenge for you than transporting in a car or truck. As you know, the gun still has to be broken down or separated from the ammunition, unloaded, perhaps in the original box, and then placed in a saddlebag, compartment, or otherwise strapped or stored on the motorcycle so it is not immediately in the rider's possession. You can also check the ISP website at www.isp.state.il.us and click on "Firearms" for more information, along with a downloadable brochure explaining the law.

the law is written like this: does not apply to or affect transportation of weapons that meet one of the following conditions:

(i) are broken down in a non‑functioning state;
or

(ii) are not immediately accessible;
or
(iii) are unloaded and enclosed in a case,
firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card.
You can have it accessable if it is unloaded, encased, and you have a FOID.
