If you make an address change on your FOID card online, the isp
website states that you do not get a new card. I was told your FOID card
must match your drivers license to purchase a firearm, if this is so, why
would you change your address online, or should you just send a new
application for your new address. What is proper way, or the best way.
Doug
I checked with Larry Grubb at the Illinois State Police Firearm Owner's Identification section. He explained that while the FOID Act requires that the address on file must be current, it does not require that the address on your Driver's license and FOID card match. However he said that a Federal Firearm Licensee can opt not to sell a firearm to a person if the addresses do not match. That however is the decision of the FFL (Federal Firearm Licensee). Currently no new card is issued with only an address change. He said if an individual wants the addresses to match, he/she must currently submit a new application. Below is the wording on address changes From the FOID Act:
It is the obligation of the holder of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card to notify the Department of State Police of any address change since the issuance of the Firearm Owner's Identification Card
Thanks for your question,
Randy
