Mst. Sargeant Ness I am a twenty nine year old male who has done some things in my past that I am not proud of . I am currently seeking executive clemency. Is it even possible for someone of my past if given clemency to work for or become involved in law enforcement work? This has been my dream since I was little. I'm just afraid I screwed it all up when I was seventeen and was charged with felony burglary. Any help you could give is greatly appreciated and please tell your troopers that keep up the good work and stay safe. Jason
Jason,
I certainly have empathy for your situation, and admire the turn-around it looks like you've made in your life. You certainly deserve a straightforward answer to your question. Most Law Enforcement jobs require that you have no felony convictions as a pre-requisite for employment consideration. Even misdemeanor criminal convictions would not be looked upon favorably. It would be up to the individual hiring boards or municipalities how they would handle such a situation. If you have an attorney working on your clemency case, it might be a good idea to consult with him on the issue. It will certainly make it more difficult to be considered for Law Enforcement, gaming board, or other such positions.
I wish you the best of luck with your efforts and your future.
