I got a ticket for driving on lake shore driving in my 2001 Ford F150 . My question is when I see a sign in Illinois (interstates, freeways or tollways) that says anything about Trucks. Does that include a B class licensed truck. Example trucks speed limit 55? Also does lake shore drive really have a law that includes B class (pickups) can not drive on lake shore drive?
Thanks for expertise and time
Craig
Craig,
Trucks of any kind are prohibited from many Chicago Streets and Boulevards (including Lake Shore Drive) by City ordinance. As I understand it, this includes pickup trucks and any other vehicles required to or displaying a truck plate of any kind. The law is normally enforced by Chicago Police Department Officers, and is Chicago Muncipal traffic ordinance Chapter 9-72-020. Apparently, the intent of the restriction is to keep delivery and other trucks off of streets and roads meant for passenger vehicles. While it has become popular in recent years for people to use pickups for personal transportation, their original purpose was for hauling materials and commodities.
The signs you see on the interstate regarding truck speed limits apply to Trucks with a "D" plate or larger. They do not apply to the "B" plates on most regular size Pickup trucks. Thanks for your question.
