Hi Sarge - Stone Park is not the most secure area, and I have a totally transparent cover because the tags of my co-workers have gotten peeled off and 'recycled.' Anyway, I got a $75.00 fine because of a cover. (I'm 49, totally non-descript, and never had a ticket) Any magic words to use in the little Stone Park kangaroo court to ameliorate the situation? Thanks and regards, Chuck
I can understand your desire to prevent the theft of your license plate sticker, however current Illinois Law does not allow for covers of any kind over license plates. Theft deterrants are in place, however. The newer license plate stickers have registration numbers on them that trace them to the plate they were issued for. Also, when properly applied, the stickers can't easily be removed without damaging them. (if at all) Unfortunately, a determined thief can easily remove plastic covers to get at a sticker, so no method is foolproof. Thanks for writing.
Even if the sticker properly applied it is easy to pill-off and recycle using simple procedure which I do dnot want to describe here. Slicing the sticker after it applied with a knife does not make it more complex. So there is no measure I could take to protect the sticker and at the same time I have to pay $20 to restore it at DVI. The theft could occur at any time and as many time. So why is it considered fare to require not to protect the sticker, place it where it could be stollen and charge unlimited amountthe owner for the theft ? The prove of my registartion is available online to the police. They carry laptop and connect to the network. So why creates the hassle?
